Title: 4 month old doesn't like to eat in AM. Need help with EASY
Post by: bluehydrangia on October 13, 2005, 13:05:49 pm
My 4 month old daughter wakes during the night to feed, so she's not immediately hungry when she wakes in the morning.  If I feed her immediately when she wakes up to get on EASY, then she only eats 2 oz and seems to cry all day on and off for the bottle, but she only drinks three ounces here and there.  As the day goes on she feeds better, the most is usually 6 oz at a feeding.    This morning I decided to wait for her hungry cues to feed her.  Unfortunately they came about an hour after she was up and she drank a good 4 ounces but then fell asleep for her nap.   How do I get her on EASY without forcing her to eat when she's not hungry?

It is not uncommon to wait a little bit before the first feed in the AM if they are not hungry right away.  You just sort of tweak EASY then as you go (let her nap longer, etc) to get it pretty close to the normal routine.  As long as she's not using the bottle to fall asleep (she can fall asleep independently) it shouldn't be  a problem.  If you'd like to post her schedule, we could look at it a little closer  :D

Thanks Noelle!

her schedule varies from day to day, but this is an example of how yesterday went after I followed her cues for eating an napping.  Seems like she's on a 3-4 hour eating schedule but can only stay awake for 2 hours after waking!:

7:30AM awake for day
8:30AM - drank 5 oz and fell asleep for nap
9:30 - up from nap
11:15 - 12:15 - next nap
12:15 - drank around 6 oz
2:10 - 2:45- next nap (I can't get her to sleep longer than 45 mins to an hour).
3:00- drank - 6 oz
Should have taken another nap but wouldn't
6:30 - 5 more ounces, and down for the night.  Woke at 7:00 and drank 2 more oz
11:00PM dream feed, 5oz (first time trying, didn't work, we'll skip it tonight!)
3:00AM - awake, I let her fall back to sleep on her own
5:00AM - awake, drank another 4 oz
6:00AM - awake again, I let her fall back to sleep
8:15AM - up for the day

I'll appreciate any advice you can give me!
