Title: Sarah/Henry's Mom
Post by: Carmela's Mom on October 18, 2005, 10:40:37 am
Hi,

I saw a response to one of my posts that you made about my daughter's nap time.  You told me to be consistent, which I know is something I need to do for her.  The past two weeks have been hell on her because I'm trying all these different things.  I am probably going to be joining a gym soon so in the morning we will be there and hopefully that will entertain her past her cranky time, then when we come home, she can have lunch and go right to bed at noon.

My question for you though is if I'm consistent do you know how long (approximately) it would take for her body to wake up at 10 and not fall asleep everywhere we go????

Thanks

I'm not sure how long it will take. Henry has been on one nap for months but still gets a little sleepy at 11am - I avoid taking him in the car at that point and if I have to take him in the car, I practically stand on my head so he won't fall asleep.  :D

My transition was easier because he was already on one nap two days a week at daycare (because he absolutely refused his am nap there) which started at about the same time as his nap at home. He was already somewhat used to it.

Henry was also the king of 40 minute naps for a LONG time. When he transitioned to one nap and got used to his new nap time, his naps lengthened so now it's a rare occasion that he naps short and needs to go to bed early.

Pick a time and stick with it. It might take a couple of weeks (yes, that long) but she'll get used to it.

Good luck! Keep us posted, please!

I can so relate to standing on your head while driving.  Hysterical.  Thanks for tips :)

Hi.I would say at least 2 weeks before anything starts to happen.
That is from my experience, but every child is different. It is sooo hard when you are starting out and it seems like it's going on forever. But when it finally starts working you feel so great   .
Before I came to this site I said that I'd tried everything to get Emily to bed.One kind Dad posted that I need to spend at least 2 weeks trying things,I was trying 2 maybe 3 days and then stressing when it didn't work.
I promise it will get better, but 2-3 weeks of hard work will give you months of sleep and happiness
