Well, technically weaning starts whenever you start adding solids and/or formula.

I started weaning my ds at 6 months, when I gave him solids. He slowly dropped breastfeeds. At 12 months, I started offering him rice milk since he is intolerant to cows milk. At 15 months I switched that to organic cows milk. He still nurses 2-3 times per day.
