Title: Wake from long naps?
Post by: sacmommy on December 06, 2005, 21:39:13 pm
We currently wake our dd from a nap if it goes much longer than 2 hours, for fear it will disturb her night sleep. What do you all think?

My dd does usually take a 2 or 2 1/4 hr nap. But some days, especially if she's had a rough night, she sleeps toward 2 1/2 hrs and then we wake her. What do you think is the cutoff, or do you just let them sleep as long as they want? My dd is an early riser, and while she generally sleeps well, there are many things that can cause her to wake at night (teething, too cold, missed a nap, etc.) and to wake early. We try to minimize those disturbances... but I hate to wake her at any time. Sleep is so precious!

I wake Henry if he sleeps to a certain time - 2:45pm - because otherwise it interferes with going to sleep at bedtime. It ends up limiting his nap to about 2.5 hours because he's usually down for his nap at 12:15pm. KWIM?

I also wake Henry if he sleeps to a certain time in the morning - 7:15am - because otherwise it interferes with his nap.

I know how precious sleep is - I was sleep deprived for almost a year and a half!!! I feel bad waking him but I want to preserve his schedule because I think it's better for him and overall he's getting enough sleep. So I wake him.

HTH!

I also wake my dd from naps and in the morning to preserve her routine.  She sleeps from 8 -8:15 (unless she wakes up earlier by herself)
and naps from 12:55-3:15 (unless she wakes up earlier by herself).  Some days I wake her both in the morning and from nap, and some days she wakes up earlier.  Lately we have gone back to one hour and 30 minute naps, so I am looking forward to longer naps again soon.  On those days that she wakes up early from her nap, I move bedtime up by 10 minutes or so.  HTH

I very rarely have this problem.  I too go by the clock.  I dn't let her sleep past 3:00 unless she's gone to nap late.  Like today, I put her in at 12:30 ... At 1:10 she's playing in her crib...so IF she is asleep by 1:30, I will let her sleep until 3:15 the latest.  I usually find that she will still go to sleep at 7:30....if not, I keep her up later.

But I'm the worst to go by because whatever I'm doing is NOT working.  While our night time generally are better, we are still not there yet.

We go by the clock unless dd wakes by herself. Up between 8 and 8.15, nap at 13.00 up by 15.15 max and bed at 19.45.  Though she is usually awake if I have to I do feel bad wakening her but we all cope better with a full nights sleep and regular timings :-)

I find I am always waking Myles up.  I usually wake him up be 2-2:30, depending on when he went down, and he naps for 2.5 hours.  The only exception is when he isn't feeling well, and then I tend to let him sleep for however long he wants within reason.
