Title: Confused about nursing and solids
Post by: Marrat on December 17, 2005, 08:05:39 am
Hi
I want to BF my DD (10months) until she is at least 1 year old. But I am a little confused how to go about - do I continue BF  every 4 hours? When do I start to taper it down? She nurses very short now - probably between 3-5 minutes, except morning and evening when it's about 10minutes. Her schedule looks like:

6/7am: BF
8am:cereal
10/11am: BF + snack
noon:lunch
2/3pm:BF + snack
5:30pm:dinner
7pm:BF and sleep

Is this okay? Any suggestions?

Thanks

My dd's day looked pretty similar to that right up to a year, when she weaned to 3 and then 2 bfs a day.  The only difference is that I didn't offer other snacks other than my breastmilk in between meals, unless it was clear that she really needed them (not often).  It looks like you're doing fine.  But your dd may be getting ready to drop one of those mid-day feeds if they are both very short.  Just follow your baby.  Aim to keep up at least 3 bfs a day until age 1.  If she still takes 4, that's fine.

I agree with Sabrina. I tended to just offer bf at the morning snack time and give fruit or something (if she'd eat it!  ) for the afternoon feed.  Looks like you're doing fine.
