Title: waking at night to play/feed?
Post by: lwwho on December 25, 2005, 04:01:53 am
Hi all.

I'm a first time mum and new to this site. I've got both of Tracy's books (I can't thank my SIL more for giving me the first one!) I have some issues that I need some advice with:

My LO is 3.5mth old and still bf on a 3hour routine. Here are my questions:

1. Her naps are 45 min to 1.5hr but never the same duration at the same time of day.... is that a problem? She gets about 4hr of nap time a day before bedtime which is at 8pm.

2. She has her dream feed at 11pm but wakes again at about 2-3am smacking her lips or sucking on her swaddle. I read that as hunger and give her the breast which she takes for 15min. Previously, I'd be able to re-swaddle her and she'll be off to sleep with little help, but in the past week, she has not wanted to go back to sleep - she talks, laughs (!) and squirms her way out of the swaddle. It took me 2 hours to send her back to sleep last night.

3. If I feed her any time after 3am, she loses interest in her 7am feed. Any ideas on that?

3. Her night wakings are not at fixed times. Some times, after the 2am feed, she will wake again at 4am. .. and will be impossible to put back to  sleep.

Could anyone shed some light? Thanks.

Sounds very normal, I had a period where the night feed seemed to be bigger than the morning feed, then eventually it settled down. try taking her off the night feed when the sucking slows down & see if that helps, but her feeding sounds very normal for a 3.5mo bf baby
