Not sure what age gap you want exactly but here is ours,

8.00 Awake& E( sometimes may be around 7.30 but is usually happy to stay in bed til 8 )
12.00 E
13.00 S
15.00 A
18.00 E
19.00 Snack
19.45 S

If we are out and about in the morning and on the way back near lunch time I will give a cracker as a snack to keep her awake.

Katelyn is 2.5yo, 32 months about.  Here is her approximate schedule, we've had it for several months now:

8:30am wake and play in bed til 9ish
9:15 breakfast
12:00/30 lunch
2:00 nap (she usually plays in bed for awhile, but is asleep by 3)
4:30/5 wake (if she isn't awake we get her up at 5)
6:00 dinner
7:30 snack
8:00 bath & pj's
8:45/9 story and bed (again, she usually stalls quite a bit asking to go potty, or just playing around, she's usually asleep by 10)

She has a pretty late bedtime, but I am sooo not a morning person, we'd rather have our mornings child free LOL.  It works for us :D   I'm sure things will change when baby #2 arrives.

Tyler just turned 2, and this is how his day looks...

8/830 - wake
915 - breakfast
1030 - snack if we're running errands
1230 - lunch
115 - naptime
4 - wake from nap if he isn't already up
615 - dinner
830 - bedtime

If he doesn't nap, he has quiet time in his crib for as long as he can stand it (usually 1-1.5 hrs). On those days, bedtime is 1 hr earlier.

Pretty similar stuff really, Ruby is 2years and 3 months and hers is as follows:

7am - gets up (she is normally awake at 6-6.30am and we are working on her staying in bed until 7am!)
8am - breakfast
10am - snack
12pm - lunch
1pm - nap
3pm i wake her if she hasn't already
4pm - snack
5.30pm - dinner
6.30pm - bath and pj's
7.15pm-8pm - bedtime.

Bedtime does vary depending on what we have been doing and what Red has been doing! If we haven't gotten in from our activity till 6pm, i will feed, bath and put Red down first and then start on Ruby!!

2:30 wake or wake up if not already up
3 snack

Iggy is 17 months old, a Spirited/Textbook cheeky chimp.

SUMMARY : I give him four big meals , plus 2 snacks and a 2-hour nap.

6.30-7am wake
7-7.30am breakfast
10-10.30am snack (fruit)
11.30 lunch
12-2pm sleep
2.30pm snack
4pm bigger meal (carb based)
6pm dinner
6.30 bath
7pm bed and sleep

we thank Tracy almost daily for giving us this control and routine. Iggy goes down without a fuss for all naps and bedtimes... at nursery they marvel at his sleep but also his good nature (which i put down to good routine and proper sleeps).

My goodness, how do you all get your toddlers to sleep so much!  I am soooo envious.  He never sleeps longer than 10 hours a night unless he's sick.  What am I doing wrong?

Here's Little Man's schedule:
He's 19 months.

6:00-6:30 Up and at 'em; give me breakfast!

8:30-9:30 (somewhere in there) Snack

11:00 Lunch

11:30-2:30 Nap

2:30/3:00 Snack

4:30 Dinner

7:00 milk

7:30 Wind-down

8:00 In bed

Edited: changed nap to an hour longer.  Right after I posted this he started taking 2.5 to 3 hour naps and has been ever since.  So now, thankfully, he's getting all 13 hours of needed sleep.

Post by: Hunter & Sithia's mom on January 30, 2006, 18:42:48 pm
Hunter seems to sleep alot less at night than everyone else here, but here's his schedule at the moment ... including his early am waking that I have to get him settled back down with due to recurrant colds this year!  AAARGH!

3-4 am - early am wake up.  Can usually get him back to sleep within 15 minutes
5:30 am awake for day ... yup and I work afternoons and don't get to bed until midnight at the earliest
6:00 am bottle of milk (soon to be sippy)
7ish am breakfast with juice sippy
10 am he'll snack as I or DH have breakfast
Noon Lunch
2:30 -1 pm Nap.  He is a GREAT NAPPER, he'll sleep anywhere from 2-3 hrs.  As I am at work, DH lets him sleep it out.  I would wake him at the 2 hr mark to see if his night time sleep gets better, but I'm not willing to fight on this issue yet
3ish snack with milk
5pm supper
7pm bath (if I am off) and bottle of milk
8pm bedtime if he hasn't fallen asleep on his own.  We have tried to get him an earlier bed time but he fights it until 8 anyways, so what's the point?

That's his schedule.  We are working on getting him to sleep in until 7am again, but it's very slow going.
Title: Re: What does your toddlers day look like?
Post by: Isabella and Scarletts mummy on January 30, 2006, 21:31:15 pm
Isabella is 14 months, this is our schedule

7.30am-wake and bottle of milk
8.00am-breakfast
10.00am-snack(fruit)
12.00am-lunch
1.00pm-nap
3.30-4.00pm-wake and snack(fruit)
5.30-dinner
6.45-bath, story, milk(takes approx 45mins)
7.30am-bed

She dropped her am nap when she was very young, about 9 months, just refused to go to sleep when i tried to put her down, but i'm feeling the benefit now she neaps for 3 hours most afternoons!!
Interesting to see how so many BW babies follow almost identical schedules, just goes to show that it obviously works!

Ellie is 13.5 months, and here is our schedule

6.00 or 6.30am   Wake (finally conquered the early morning monster.  Touch wood.  But now bloody daylight savings is about to end.  Humph) - breakfast and cows milk pretty much straight away.
7.00                   Play
7.30                   Shower with mumma
8.00                   Play
9.00                   Snack
9.15                   Out the door (if creche day) or more play
11.00 or 11.30    Lunch
12.00 (about)     Sleep
1.45 to 2.30       Wake and play
3.15 or 3.30       Snack
5.15 or 5.30       Dinner
6.00 or 6.15       Wind down and milk
6.30                  Bed

She only has cows milk morning and night, and drinks water pretty much the rest of the day.

After transitioning to 1 nap (took a couple of months) and making good use of the time change (hooray) our day at 18 months looks like this:-

6.00      wake-up
6.30       bf and play in Mummy's bed
7.30       breakfast
9.30       snack
11.45     lunch
12.30 - 2.30 nap
3.00       snack
5.40       dinner
6.30       bedtime routine with daddy
7.15       bf and Mummy puts to bed (awake!)
7.40       asleep (fingers crossed)

We seem t get 10.5 hours overnight sleep and 2 hours during the day!

Justine--Do our children have some kind of weird cosmic connection or what?

This is Margot's typical day at 20 months also after a diffcult 2 to 1 nap transition and very helpful time change!

6:00 wake up
6:45 bf and play in Mummy's bed
8 breakfast
9:45 snack
12 lunch
1-3 nap
3 snack
5:45 dinner
7 start bedtime routine, including teeth with daddy, stories, then bf with mummy and bed
8 sleep

about 10 hours overnight sleep, and usually 2 hour naps but naps still range for us from 1.5 to 2+ hours.

Hi ladies and gents:
After doing BW since my now 21 month old was 9 weeks, we are thrilled to post our glorious schedule now...

7:30 ish wake
8:00 ish breakfast
noon lunch
1:00 nap
2:30 wake & snack
5:00 dinner
6:00 naked play, reading, milk
6:20 bath
6:40 jammies
7:00 fast asleep

For those parents feeling like they will tear their hair out trying to do BW, all I can say is commitment and diligence worked for us.  He didn't sleep through on a regular basis until he was over a year old!  Good luck!

Aidan is now 19mths.  We've just shifted his whole routine 2hrs forward to accommodate his attending day nursery.  This is what it looks like at the moment.

7:30am   wake up and breakfast
10:30/11am   small snack
12:30   lunch
1:00-3:15pm   nap
3:30pm   small snack
6:00pm   dinner
7:20pm   bath, jammies, stories, songs, milk
8:00pm   bed

He's getting really tired at lunch time and will sometimes only eat some of his lunch before falling asleep in his highchair :o  If this happens, then his small snack at 3:30pm turns into the 2nd half of his lunch so he eats quite a lot at this sitting.  He's just starting waking in the night for milk though  >:( so I think he's not getting enough food during the day.  Need to think about that one.  Maybe will move his milk feed to just before his nap and then move all the other solid times back a bit.

We had a perfect schedule from 15 to 22.5 months. It's changing a lot now due to falling asleep issues so will post the old one.

7.30 wake up ( often had to be woken) followed by breakfast
11.30 Lunch
12.30-14.30 nap ( often had to be woken)
17.30/18.00 Dinner
19.30 Bed ( asleep straight away)

Of course there were a few glithces, after we came back from a weekend away we had 2 weeks of 6/6.30 starts, shorter naps every now and then but this was it in general.

Isabella is coming up to 15  months. Her routine is.....

7.00am Wakes and has morning milk
8.30am Breakfast
10.30am to 11.00am Nap
12.00pm Lunch
2.30pm to 3.30pm Nap
4.30pm Dinner
5.30pm bath
6.30pm Bedtime milk
7.00pm Bed

This is only roughly her routine. She generally plays or reads books in between meals and naps. Going to drop the morning nap soon and start putting her down for her afternoon nap at about 12.30pm for 1 1/2 to 2 hours instead.....the girl does like her sleep!

Ok this is ours at 14months and where i want it to be from now on since we have been on 1 nap for a few months now. We have just gotten over a cold/ear infection so their have been some early wakings we still have them on odd days as she is cutting her eye teeth but this is a general day:

7.15/30am - Wake change nappy,9oz cup of milk
8am - Breakfast cereal and toast
9am - Run errands or shopping
10am - Snack museli bar and biscuit with water
11.30/45pm - Lunch Sandwich,120g yoghurt and water
12.15/30pm - Nap 2-3hrs (2 1/4hrs average)
3.15pm - Snack fruit and saltanas with water
4pm - Out for a walk or to the park
5pm - 7oz milk in her cup
5.45/6pm - Dinner with Mum and Dad 99% of the time what we are having about 1/2cup worth then 1/2cup custard for dessert.
6.15/30pm - Bath
7pm - When the weather gets warmer walk with Mum and Dad
7.15/30pm - Brush teeth,story bed. Asleep within 15mins.

Some mornings she wakes at 6.30/45am if she has a dirty nappy or teething but then i just put her down a little earlier at her nap at 12pm.

Isaac is almost 14 months old and our schedule is this:

700AM wakeup (if he wakes before this he plays in his crib till I get him at 7am)
715AM Breakfast and activity time
900AM - 945AM - 45min. nap
We ussually go run errands after this nap and he gets a snack of water and crackers or someything while we are out.
1245 Lunch
100pm-300PM Nap
600PM Dinner, Bath, Bedtime between 715-730pm

If we have things to do in the morning and he has one nap its ussually around 1130am and its for 2-3 hrs. He was on one nap for about a month, but then I switched him back to two because of early wake-ups and fussy afternoons. I was surprised that he would actually nap at 9am, because he is wide awake. But I put him in his crib and he goes to sleep without a problem.

6.30 ish wake (there is a lot of variation here sometimes it's 5am but mainly it's around the 6am - 6.30am mark)
7.00 - breakfast
9.00 - snack
11.30 - lunch
12.30 - 2.00 - nap.  No more than 1.5 hours now in a bid to try and solve our early starts
3.00 - snack
5.00 - tea
7.00 - 8oz bottle and toast
7.30 bed

That's pretty much how it has been for the last month.

Now that we're consistently on one nap, thought I'd post our routine (thank goodness it's more predictable now!). LO is 16 months, and this has been our routine for 3-4 weeks now.

7:30/8: wake up
8:30 mommy gets Owen from crib
9:00 breakfast of waffles & cream cheese, fruit (he won't eat until he's been up a good hour)
9-11 play group, go to park, or other activities typically outside now that it's nice!
11:30 lunch (sandwich, fruit, crackers & cheese)
12:00/1:00 nap (depends on when woke up, how tired, etc.) Typically 2-2.5 hours.

2:30/3:30 up from nap play with babysitter
4:00 snack - (raisins, fruit&cereal bar, or crackers)
5:00 help mama make dinner, play by himself
6:00 dinner with family (protein, fruit, try to get him to eat a veg - usually refuses, more cheese & crackers to supplement)
6:30 bath, stories, bottle
7:30 lights out and night night!

NO MORE NIGHT WAKINGS!!!!!! This is a huge improvement for us! Yay for one nap territory!  ;D

At 16 months, Ds's routine isn't too different from at 14 months...

wakes up anywhere between 7-7:45am (weird) but we leave him there to play until 7:45.
7:45 - 6oz milk
8:30 breakfast - usually one of toast/waffle/cereal, 1/2 yogurt, fruit, water
10:15 - small snack (cheerios, a bit of fruit, etc), get dressed
11:30 lunch - dinner leftovers, sandwich, veggies, etc. fruit, water
12:45 6oz bottle and nap, usually 2 hours minimum
3:30 small snack (a ww cracker and cheese or fruit)
5:30 dinner - whatever we're having unless it's not appropriate, then a keep a few things frozen in the freezer for him leftover from past dinners
7:15 bath
7:45 bed
He needs about 13-13.5 hours of sleep daily which is why I think his wake up time fluctuates a bit - if he had a shorter PM nap the day before, he sleeps in later and if he had an extra long nap the day before, he wakes up earlier.

9:30 put Grace in crib for her nap then put Mia down for her nap (by 10am)

10 or 10:30 Snack
This is when we got out if we choose to do so (play ground, etc.), or we stay home and play...dance, bubbles, silly songs, etc.
12pm Lunch
12:30 Baby Einstein Video
1pm play time, story time, etc.
1:30 put Grace down for her nap then put Mia down for her nap (by 2pm)

3pm Snack
Daddy's home at this time on most days
If we have Mia we just play, if Mia's not here we sometimes run errands at this time
5pm Dinner
6pm Bath, PJ's, Brush Teeth, Sing, Read Books, Pray, Bed

It's too hot right now to go outside and play (we live in South Florida) and there are tons of mosquito's in our yard so we are stuck indoors more now.  :P We use to go outside and play once a day and can't wait to do so again. :)

Chris (now almost 18 mths) days look like that:

6:15-7:00 am -   wake
about 7:15 am  - bottle of cowmilk (soon out of a cup), wash/shower, dress
playtime or quick shopping (bakery around the corner)
9:30 am           - breakfast
more playtime or going out to playground or shopping or for a walk
11:30              - lunch
12:15              - nap for about 1-2 hours (Chris was a 30 min napper for almost 9 months, but seems that he now got through that :))
3:00 pm          - snack (usually fruits sometimes plus a small cracker)
more playtime, playground, outings etc
5:30-6:30 pm  - dinner
7:00 pm         - bottle of cowmilk (soon out of a cup - we are working on that one... - depending how much dinner he had sometimes a small bottle is enough)
7:30 pm         - bed with book, cuddles
7:45-8:00 pm - usually asleep

Mia is 22 months old and her routine is this:

7.00/7.30 wake up and breakfast
9.30 - snack: apple/pancakes/flapjack/yoghurt
12.00 - lunch: a sandwich and yoghurt and a few crisps
12.30 - 2.00 nap.  It's between an hour and 90 mins.  I really go day by day and by instinct on this as to how much she needs, but certainly no more than 90 mins
3.00 - drink and snack
5.00 - tea time
5.45 - bath
6.30 - 4oz approx moo juice and supper: toast, pancakes or muffins etc
7.15 - up to her room to read books for 15 mins then teeth brushed and into bed at 7.30/7.45.

Skatty - DS, at 20 months now, has always struggled with naps.  He has good phases and bad phases.  Things have definitely been smoother generally since he moved to one nap at around 14 months.  He still has days where he misses a nap (we actually had 3 missed naps within 4 days last week but that was the worst it's been) but the sleep strategies we've used have taken hold enough that he always gets back on track and his night time sleep has continued to always be really good.  Glad we made you feel better - I was in your shoes at one point, too!

Until 3 days ago, 16 -month old DS had been on the same routine for months (since we dropped the early evening catnap back in the dark ages)

Three days ago, DS chose to sleep until 9am (14 hours! straight) and so right now, I'm a little in the air about where we're going. Here's what it used to be:

7 get up, cuddle with Daddy watching CBeebies and a fruit pouch
715 dress and play/ watch CBeebies with Daddy
730 breakfast
play
9 milk and nap
10 nappy change
1030 snack in chair
1145 lunch
1300 nap
1500 milk
1630 snack in chair
1815 dinner
1900 bath
1930 milk and bed (awake when put down)

He had spells of waking early and a couple of times he'd wake in the night, but generally things were good. When there was a scheduled eat or sleep then he was playing. I have at least 2 dedicated times a day where I do a different activity with him and we usually go for a walk after lunch to get rid of any excess energy before nap-time.

Thought I might update our routine since Owen is 2(!!) now!  Pleased to say that at 2, we still are getting a 2 hour nap most days --although, it's a little bit more variable with 2.5 hours some days and 1.5 hours others.  I'm thinking we may be headed to a shorter nap soon.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

7:30/8 wake
8:30 breakfast
10:00 snack
12:00 lunch

12:30/1 nap (depending on when woke up in AM)

3pm wake (no matter what - to preserve bedtime)

4 pm snack
6 pm dinner

6:45 upstairs for bath, story, bottle (about to wean - he just won't drink milk out of a sippy!  :P ), cuddle, and songs
7:30 in crib

asleep by 8 pm at the latest.

So, we're still getting 12 hour sleep most nights, and 1.5-2.5 hours in naps.  Bless my sleepy boy!  :)

We have been struggling with naps since DS#2 was born 8 weeks ago..

8am wake up
9am breakfast
12:30 lunch (usually offer a snack between but often isn't interested)
2pm nap (takes about one a week lately!)
snack offered after nap or 3pm (he stays in bed for 1 hour for a rest whether he sleeps or not)
5:30pm dinner
ON A NO NAP DAY:
6:30 bath
7:15 bed
ON A NAP DAY
7:15 bath
8:00 bed

Just curious, how structured are your toddlers routines through the day in terms of activities.  Do you just have free play time or have you built in some other things like consistent outdoor play time, craft time, etc. yet?  Sometimes I wonder if I need to start adding a little more structure in this way to my little guy's day...

We don't have a specific thing structured in at a specific time, but I do a craft, an indoor physical activity and some together play every day. We have a Mummy/Son date every Saturday morning, which we both look forward to.

DS is 21 months now and his routine has been the same for about 6 months, although I have moved his pm snack to about 4 or 4.30 as 5 was effecting his dinner.

OK here is rachels routine at 2.5 years old, I will start it at 7am waking but sometimes it's an 8am waking and then everything is delayed an hour but she is woken earlier from her nap so bedtime is the same.

7am wake
8am breakfast with cup of milk
10am snack
1130am lunch (main meal of the day)
1230pm nap (between 90mins and 2.5hrs)
300pm snack
5pm tea with drink of milk
630pm bath
7pm bed

we have had quite a structured activity schedule for the last year.  every morning we do something formal - either go to a music or art class or have preschool session or have an hour of something at home like art or music or dancing or reading or outside talking about nature.  in the afternoon we always have a 20min time of reading and numbers/letters after she wakes from her nap and then tend to be more free play seeing friends and having playdates or playing in the garden or something.  this works well for her because she's bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning and less so in the afternoon so she can jusy do her own things.

Our day's activities are somewhat structured, not always the same but follows a predictable pattern. We are generally more active in the am. During the week we are up and out to the Y after getting ready in the am. Pm's are more low key we either clean, run errands, walk the dog, or visit. We always have one-on-one time and independent play time sometime before or after dinner. Once the weather gets nicer, things will change so we can enjoy our few good months.  8)

Here is our schedule at 13.5 months

5:30am wake, bf & potty
7am breakfast
8:15/8:30am nap 1-1.5 hrs.  wake, bf & potty
10am snack
12pm lunch
1:15/1:45pm nap 1-1.5 hrs.  wake, bf & potty
3pm snack
5pm dinner
6:15pm bath, books, bf
7pm bed

We are holding on to two naps for now.  I wish we could go to one but she just refuses to sleep past 5:30am.  She was late to transition from 3-2 so I suspect that 2-1 will be the same.

7:30 breakfast with mom & dad
8-8:30 playing outside with one parent while other goes to hospital chapel (it's mandatory but children aren't welcome)
8:30-11ish friends come over to play - usually there's a snack (fruit) around 10 or so
11-12 mommy makes lunch, ds helps  or interferes...
12 lunch
12:30ish - 2:00 (3:00 on a good day) nap
after nap snack
friends over until 4
excursion to the market or playtime with mom until 5
daddy time until 6:30
6:30 dinner
7:15 brush teeth, potty, bedtime story
usually asleep at 7:30

10, 2 & 4 (usually, sometimes more often, sometimes less) get up - grab mom or dad & drag to room, climb back into (big-boy) bed and go right back to sleep. 4am is usually a potty time

Repeat... and watch mom & dad get increasingly sleep-deprived!

At almost 19 months our routine varies but this is a typical day if we don't have playgroup or visitors and dad is home at his normal time. The weather is pretty good so we are mostly outdoors:

7.30ish wake up, L will play in her cot for a while after she wakes
7.50 up and a drink of milk
8.15 breakfast then get dressed etc
9.00 play in the garden
10.00 a snack in the pushchair while I quickly walk the dog before L protests to walk  ::)
11.30 Indoors and play, watch a dvd and have a glass of milk
12.15 Into pushchair for her nap outside, usually asleep by 12.30
13.45 (1˝ hours is about average for her nap but it varies day to day) Straight oout with lunch on the go for a power walk around the forest with the dog, once again trying to make it before she protests to get out!
14.30 play in the garden, go for a walk up and down the street to see the chickens etc
16.30 daddy is home,(yipee!)
17.00 teatime
17.30 cuddles with mum and milk
17.45 bath and stories with dad
18.30 bed  :)

I must admit our times really vary as I am not strict on wake up so she will sometimes have a mammoth night and a short nap etc but it works for us.

20 months

6/7 wake up, will stay in cot for a while (sometimes bottle sometimes not -phasing this out gradually)
between 8 & 9:30 breakfast (depending on if had bottle or not)
10ish small snack if had breakfast early
12 lunch
1-3ish nap
3:30 small snack of fruit
6ish dinner
8-8:30 bedtime (sleeps through usually unless teething)

We had problems with EW 5/6 every morning when had bedtime at 7/7:30 & nap at 12, and tried all sorts of different approaches to delay this, then decided to try and keep everything at an hr later when clocks changed forward for summer. Worked really well! We now also have more time with Daddy when he gets home from work and usually go for a walk around the lake to feed the ducks. We love our 7am wake ups!

We hit 30 months at the end of this week.  :o How did that happen?  :) Sounds like we're not the only ones starting to change our nap routine!

7:30 awake
8:00 breakfast
8:30 play while mommy tries to pry her eyes open
9:00 get dressed and ready for the day

10-12 either play at home, or most often we go to play groups, speech therapy, or the park -- our best naps occur on days we get out to play somewhere

12 lunch

12:45/1 nap (when he sleeps, its usually 1.5-2 hours; if he doesn't sleep, he stays in his crib until 2:30!  :o He's usually pretty good about just hanging out for 90 minutes. )

3:00-5:30 plays with babysitter while mommy and daddy work

5:30 mommy makes dinner, daddy & Owen usually head outside to play

6:00 dinner

6:30-6:45 roughhouse with daddy

6:45 upstairs for bed routine

7:30 in crib; on no nap days, he falls asleep right away. On nap days, he may chat for 30 minutes.

Missing having a regular nap, but since he's really good about stayiing in his crib and playing, it seems to work out OK.  I sure hope we at least keep naps 2-3 days/week until he's 4! Hate the idea of losing it by age 3!  :o

ETA: After about 2-3 weeks of nap inconsistencies, he's back to napping regularly! I think maybe his last molar was causing the nap ruckus.  I feel more positive that we'll keep our nap a little longer!  ;D

DD is 15 mo.

7.00-7.30 wake up and breakfast
8.00 out for daycare (I am working 8.30-6.00 mon to fri)
9.00 snack
11.45 lunch
12.15-2.00 or 2.30 or 3.00 (last week it was 3.00 mostly)
3.15 snack
5.00 yoghurt
6.30 back to home
7.00 dinner
7.30 bath, bed time ritual
8.00 at bed

Started showing signs for 2-to-1 nap transition at 12 mo, tried to insist on 2 naps but didn't work, so last week we moved to 1 nap (which is surprisingly long :)) I would like to have more time with DD after we came home  :'( but I don't want to deprive her from her night sleep. So we'll do like this until she needs less sleep, and try to make it up on weekends.

My DS had just changed to 1 nap (so far very successfully, touch wood) and here is our day

6ish wake and play/moan until I get him at...
6.30 mum drags herself out of bed and DS has bottle prepared by daddy
7.30/8 breakfast of weetabix or ready brek
8.30 dressed and errands or playtime
10.30 snack
11 nap until 1pm (i wake him), lunch (only has a small amount lately ???)
2.30/3 bottle and biscuit
5.30 dinner
6.30-7 bath and bedtime routine
7-7.30 bed with bottle and mostly out like a light

I love this as it works well, am aiming for 7.30 bed and 6.30 wake soon which would be better for us

Hayden will be 29 months next week, here is his schedule as of now at home.  He is in daycare twice/week while I am on maternity leave and they nap 12-130.

500-600 wake
7ish breakfast
900 snack or juice
1100 lunch
1200-200/300 wake and milk or snack
500 dinner
630 bath
700 milk and snack
800 bed sometimes 730 on daycare days

We have struggled so long with early wakings, since as long as I can remember, but since he is in daycare, it is hard to adjust his schedule.  The last couple of days he has gone to bed later because of special things going on during the summer which he hardly has ever done, we are usually very strict with bedtime.  First night he went to bed 915 or so and woke 530, but last night went to bed at about the same time and woke at 645am.  Almost thinking of keeping his bedtime a little later, maybe 830, just so he sleeps past 6am or later as he doesn't ever sleep more than 9.5-10 hours at night.  Things might change when I return to work next month and he is only napping 1.5 hrs at daycare though.  Violet is almost 11 months and flip-flopping between 2-1 naps, depending on wake time....it will be SOOO nice when they nap together!!!

At 23 months we are doing:

7-8 am: wake-up, out of crib @ 8 am  :)
play a bit and get dressed, Mom and Dad have "couch time" & Ella plays independently
8:30: breakfast
Activity - usually go for a walk or to the YMCA
Outside play
12: Lunch
1 - 3:15: nap
Play with Mom
4 - 5: Ella has "room time" - she plays independently in her bedroom, Mom gets some chores done
5: Get dinner ready, Ella has free play or helps Mom
5:30/6: Dinner
7: bath, lotion, brush teeth, PJ's, clean up room, stories, songs, cuddles
7:45: Bedtime

Please explain couch time.
It sounds lovely  :D

Does she have independent room time for the full hour?
Do you have toys in her room?
I really want to start to implement something like this, but Grace has nothing in her room to play....maybe the play room??

We do couch time for 15-30 minutes every morning because DH works 10:30-6:30 for the summer and it's easier to do it then rather than squeeze it in between dinner and bath. ANyways, DH and I sit on the couch and talk uninterupted for that time about whatever we want/need to. Ella is not allowed to interupt us unless she is hurt. We really love this because Ella realizes that she is not the center of attention all the time and it also shows her that mom and dad care about each other so much that we make each other a priority on a daily basis. Works great for our family!

For room time, Ella plays in her bedroom which has one medium sized bin of toys along with many many books. She also brings her special blankets and "babies" (stuffed animals) our of her crib to relax with if she wants. Usually she ends up resting with her blankets or reading her stuffed animals stories. This is usually when I get the bulk of the dinner preparations done and unfinished projects I started during naptime. I really like this time of day because Ella is learning more independence, self-reliance, and imagination/creativity. This one took a bit of time to implement without protest from Ella and even now she sometimes fusses when I leave the room. But she is much more relaxed and focused after because she is not becoming overstimulated by to busy of a day.

What do you do if she trys to interupt you at couch time?

For room time do you put up a gate?
DD is highly spirited and I wonder if she'll do it with out a gate  ;)

I LOVE your ideas.

No, she was in the living room with us, just played by herself. ;)
At first she kept talking to us, but we continued to say "this is mommy and daddy time...you can talk to us when the timer goes off"...we use timers a lot to help her understand time, etc.
Towards the end she either got the idea, or got tired of us telling her the same thing LOL
Title: Re: What does your toddlers day look like?
Post by: irish3680 on August 01, 2008, 02:21:51 am
Haha about Grace and couch time! Nice job! Ella also plays in the living room with us during couch time or sometimes she plays on our enclosed porch trying shoes on  :) If Ella tries to interupt us, we just quickly remind her that it is important for Mom and Dad to give each other our undivided attention and she is a big girl who can play by herself for a while, then we turn to each other and continue our conversation. AT first she protested, but now I think she is comforted by and likes seeing us show love to each other.

For the record, Ella is very spirited also  ;) and it took a while to work up to room time and even now we still have some rough days with it. We started doing blanket time around a year old where I would spread a big blanket out on the floor and put some toys on it for Ella to play with. The blanket was her boundary and she was not to leave it. It took about a week of this daily with lots of putting her back on the blanket before she got the idea and started following the rules during this time. I think this helped pave the way to room time. Initially when we started room time I did put a gate up at her door. She HATED this, so I decided to see how she would do with no physical boundary at the door. She likes it much better and stays in her room for the most part. The other day she walked out of her room after 10 minutes and yelled downstairs, "Mama room time all done". I just guided her back to her room and told her she was not to come out again and she listened. She is still in a crib and some days she asks to have her room time in her bed, so on those days I know she can't go anywhere  ;D I do tell her if she repeatedly leaves her room during independent playtime, I will put the gate back up on her door. This has been enough to keep her in her room after an initial warning.

Good luck if anyone decides to implement these times during their days. It does take some work to get it started, but it has been SO worth it for us for numerous reasons!

wow!  i just read the room time and couch time ideas and I love them both!   Going to try it for sure!  My husband and I work at home, and many times we have meetings here so we've been beginning to teach Ellie about "Adult talking time."  She can be in the room, but she cannot interrupt.  I feel a little disorganized in the way I'm teaching her  because it doesn't happen every day, but last time she responded to it fine--mainly beause i told everybody there to ignore her if she tried to get their attention--but after a couple minutes, she just went and played by herself.  I also try to be sensitive to her small attention span and try to limit the adult time to a short time.

Anyway, I think the room time and the couch time is GREAT and I think it will help us for many reasons.

Ok, I think we have finally successfully gotten on the new routine.  Here it is in great detail including potty times (she is almost entirely trained... we started with Tracey's suggestion at 9mo), meals & all.  She is now 19 mo:

5:30/6:00am wake, potty, snuggle, breakfast (cereal, milk & fruit)
8am juice, potty
8:30 potty
9am snack (crackers or something of the sort)
9:30 potty & outing.  5-10 min cat nap in car on mornings that started earlier
10:30 potty (usually out somewhere)
11/11:30 lunch (protein, grain, veggie, fruit & water)
11:45/12:15 potty & nap for 1.25-2hrs
1:30 wake, potty (usually BM) & milk
3pm potty, snack (from the group she ate the least of at lunch... protein or veggie usually)
potty as needed in PM- usually can hold it longer
5/5:30pm dinner (protein, grain, veggie & water)
7pm bath, books
7:30 lullaby & lights out

DD is 32mos and has been a BW baby since she was 8w old.

6/6:30a Wake
6:45a B'fast
9:30a Snack
12p Lunch
1:30p Nap (plays a bit but if she's going to nap, she's typically out in 30 minutes)
2-4/4:30 Nap
5p Snack
6p Dinner
7 Bath, Books, PJs
7:30 Bed

DS is 12mos old:

6:30a Wake/BF
6:45a B'fast
8:30-10:30 Nap
10:45 BF
12 Lunch
1:15/1:45-3:30/4 Nap
4 BF/Snack
6 Dinner
7 Bath, Books, PJs
7:30 Bed**

** I am thinking I need to tweak this. It's causing him to be a bear in that final hour. I want to try to put DS down before DD - but it's a tricky thing as they share a room and I'm afraid DD will wake DS as she doesn't always stay in her bed when we leave the room (she's in a toddler bed).

I'm not sure if I've posted our latest routine, and am too lazy to go back thru the posts. So forgive me if I repeat!

Owen is now 33 months old, and we moved to this routine at around 28 months.  Basically, his nap moved from 1 pm to 2 pm, and his bedtime went from 7:30 to 8 or 8:30.  this means I now get very late wakings, which I love!  I thought he'd wake at 7:30 am for the rest of my natural life!  ;D

8:30/9 am wake
9:30/10 breakfast

10-12 classes, playdates, or errands.

12:30 lunch

1:30 go upstairs for wind down, stories

2 pm asleep
4 pm wake up (although, lately we've been getting some 2.5-3 hour naps)

6 pm dinner

7:45 wind down

8:15 in bed, and usually asleep soon after

I truly love this new routine.  The late mornings are nice, and going to bed at 8:15 means we have some time after dinner to play as a family instead of rushing to get jammies and cleaned up etc.  I was very surprised to figure out that he needed so little A time after nap!  In fact, tonight he didn't wake up until 4:45 pm, and was asleep by 9 pm, which is only 4.25!  Works for me!

Vinyak is 13 months and has been on the same routine for months now.

6-6:30 wake up

8 breakfast {usually oatmeal}

10 9oz bottle

12 lunch {PB&J or ceam cheese and jam sandwhich}

1-3 nap

3 snack {yogurt, applesauce, or banana}

6 dinner {rice, yogurt, veg, and dhal}

7 bedtime routine

7:30 9oz bottle

7:40 bed, asleep by 8

Working on eliminating the two bottles but as he refuses to take milk from a sippy we are stuck at the moment.  He eats pretty much the same things everyday, not into variety but we try.

My son just turned 3, so not sure we belong here anymore! But thought I'd post our routine, just in case....

8:30/9 am wake

9:30 breakfast

10-12 activities, classes, errand running

12:30 lunch

1:30/2 nap (depending on when woke in AM)

Sometime between 3-4:30 wake up (he does 1.5-2.5 hour naps; his naps are more variable now than they've ever been! But never shorter than 1.5 hours)

4:30-5:30 various types of play

5:30 make dinner with mom

6:00 dinner

6:30 play with daddy

7:00/7:30 upstairs to start bedtime routine

8-8:30 in crib for the night.  He's been falling asleep really fast, based on the silence after I leave the room!

This routine has been working really well with us.  We had a rough patch where he was so tired at nap time that he fell asleep during wind down! And then of course woke up while being transferred, resulting in 10 minute naps.  :P  I finally wised up and shortened his wind down and also do whatever I have to to keep him awake, including tickling! That has been working great and now he's back to having consistent long naps again!  Bedtime is typically 4 hours after he wakes up from nap, and I've found much longer than that and we enter OT territory.  He has less A time now than he did a year ago, so not sure why that is!  But I'm getting about 2 hours daytime and 11.5-12.5 hour nights, so I'm happy!

7/7:30 awake and drink of milk
8:30 breakfast
10ish snack
11:30 lunch
1:00 nap (at nursery this is earlier, more like 12, but works better to keep at 1pm at home, otherwise we start getting EWs)
(typically sleeps 1.5-2hrs at home or 30mins-1hr at nursery)
3:30ish snack (then she has a few more little snacks before dinner ::)
6:00 dinner
7:30 bath (every 3 days as ecsema gets bad if more often)
8:00 milk, bedtime routine
8:30 in bed, lights out

She's always been a max 10.5 hrs nightslep girl, but we're now sometimes getting 11 or more hrs ;D Very pleased she's doing so well!

Ella is 3 years 4 months. She has always needed more sleep than the average and still needs a long nap. Last year around this time she started EW and taking ages to fall asleep at night. I assumed she was on her way to dropping her nap and started shortening it. That totally backfired and she I realized that she was actually borderline OT and needed her nap extended. When we made the nap a little later and allowed her to sleep longer, she began having longer nights. I learned that the phrase "sleep begets sleep" is still so true as they get older. She still averages 12.5-13 hours of sleep a day.

7ish: awake
7:30: breakfast
8:00: Morning chores & get ready for the day, free time
8:45/9:00: MWF: leave for preschool, TTH we do some type of project or activity during the morning
11:30/12:00: Lunch
12:45: nap (sleeps 2-2.5 hours)
3/3:30: up from nap, time with Mom, independent playtime in bedroom
4:30/5:00: dinner
Playtime with sister
6:00ish: get ready for bed
6:30: stories and relax for bed
7:00: bedtime (asleep 8ish - needs downtime in bed before sleeping)

Shannon, isn't that funny? At this age we always think that taking forever to fall asleep at bedtime and fooling around at nap time means they're getting ready to shorten/drop a nap, but it could also be just the opposite.  My eldest son had an issue with his routine, but for some odd reason, the time change has actually rectified it.  He was taking a long time to get to sleep and so we pushed his nap later adn tried shortening it, but he went through the grumpiest phase we'd ever seen!! Then with the time change, we started getting him out of bed a little earlier and napping earlier and longer and it seemed to magically fix things.  Lucky we stumbled on that!

Just started trying a "set" bedtime. (as set as one can get lol)

6:15-7:00-wake up
7:15/30-milk (too impatient to wait for us to go down for breakfast most days)
8:00-breakfast
sometimes she has a snack mid morning
11:30-lunch will let her have milk as long as she is eating well otherwise juice or water
12:00/12:30 to anywhere from 1:30-2:30 (not consistently taking a LONG nap)
3:00-snack
5:30/6:00-dinner with milk
7:00-start bedtime routine/bath on a bathnight/pajamas/story
7:30-in bed...has been "chatting" or calling us til about 8:00 pretty consistently....trying to decided if bedtime should be earlier or later.

My guess is an earlier bedtime especially because the looks like it is 2 hours max on a good day.

Vinayak is almost 30 months.  And this has been his daily routine since about 18 months.

8:30  wake up call
9:00  breakfast of veggie sausages and toast and some kind of fresh fruit
12:30 lunch of chicken nuggets and fruit or a sandwhich
1:30  lie down for nap. usually asleep by 2
4:00 wake up and have a snack of yogurt and crackers
6:30 dinner varies from day to day
7:30 Appa's time...includes quiet play, bath, book and cuddles before turning out the light for the night...he is usualy asleep by 9 at the latest...has been known to be awake til 10!

Between breakfast and lunch we run errands and do fun things like park or library.  He also has free access to kefir and water.  Juice is limited to when we are out {kefir is dairy and I worry about freshness, won't drink milk}.  If he wants something to eat between breakfast and lunch I will give him some fruit or crackers but it is rare for him to ask.  So far this routine has been the most fun.  Vastly different from his newborn and baby routine!!!  More sleep being the biggest difference, he was an early bird for the first 14 months of life.

This is our day in a nutshell, I don't bathe Kaeb daily because he wants to be in the tub for an hour or more, but now that he can go play at the park, lol thats going to have to change.

8:30-9:30am       Playtime

9:30-10am          Snack w/ water

10-11:30am         Playtime w/ Mommy while baby brother sleeps

11:30-12             Lunch w/ milk

12-1:30 or 2pm    Nap

2-2:30pm            Snack w/ water

2:30-5pm           Playtime (usually on his own or with a playdate while baby brother sleeps and Mommy makes dinner or visits)

5-6pm                Dinner w/ juice

6-7pm                Family playtime

My toddler is quickly approaching preschooler!   Ahhhhh!  :)  He will be 32 months May 1st.  We are a whole lot more flexable now than a year and a half ago.  He also gets snacks if he asks and water or kefir if he is thirsty.

Wakes between 8 and 9 {vast improvement from 5 am!}
Breakfast after teeth brushing and face washing
Play, arts, get outside and water the garden
Between 12 and 1 is lunch
Rest/Nap time for about an hour if he doesn't sleep and until 3 if he does sleep
Get up and run a fast errand {go to post or grocery or sometimes the park or duck pond}
Home to help me prepare supper
DH arrives home and we sit down to eat no later than 6:30
After supper we go for a walk around the block and back home by 7 ish
DH takes over and does the bedtime game...bath, quiet game, book, cuddle, sleep usually by 8:30 sometimes as late as 10...really depends on if he slept in the afternoon.

He'll be college bond before I know it.

08.00    E Breakfast
10.00    S (1.5hrs)
11.30    E BF
12.30    E Lunch

16.30    E BF

Really need to start dropping those BF's.

I found there was a lot of tweaking with the 2 to 1 nap transition. Once you hit that it's a bit more stable...just gradual increases of A time. My DD was able to tolerate OT a lot better so routine didn't have to be as strict, etc.

Here's a good day for us:

6:30-wake up (give or take 20 minutes)
7:30-Breakfast and milk
9:30-snack (around then...maybe later)
12-lunch
1-3-nap
3:30/4-sometimes a snack
6:00-dinner
8:00-bed (I sometimes can get her down earlier if she short naps)

Our day is slowly getting longer again and our night shorter. I either have to cut the nap soon or just live with it, I think. I'll hold out until 2 year molars perhaps???

Hi,
We always do baby Einstein Lullaby after bath and during last sippy bottle.  She knows after "baby lamb" story she waves bye bye and knows it's time for sleep.  So cute....Was actually thinking of moving to a toddler video but hey if aint broken don't fix it LOL.

Tyler is 26months now. His routine as of fairly recently is...

Wakes between 6-7am.
Get dressed etc, breakfast about an hour after waking.
(Nursery on Mon/Wed 9am until 2pm).
Play at home or go to a group.
Lunch around 11:30
Nap 12-1/1:30
Snack sometime, maybe 3pm.
Afternoons we go out if Daddy is home, or just go for a little walk.
Dinner 5pm
Bath + wind down 6pm.
In bed by 7, asleep by 7-7:15pm

He's in a pretty good routine right now, once or twice a month we get a waking before 6am. Xx

Mya is 15.5 months old. We recently had to cut her am nap to 30 minutes sleep, so getting closer to 1 nap but not there yet. I also have to wake her at 7 am no matter what or the whole day is off.

7:00: wake-up
7:30: breakfast
9:30: milk
9:45: nap (sleep 10:00-10:30)
11:30/12: lunch
1:00: nap (wakes up between 3:00 and 4:00)
4:30/5: dinner
Bedtime is 3 hours after she wakes from pm nap so between 6:00 and 7:00 (usually 6/6:30), she gets milk before bed too

DD is 19 months and her day looks just like it did when we switched to 1 nap at 13 months.  May it last!

wake 7/7:30
breakfast 8/8:30
snack on occasion usually when we are out and about but not after 11am.
lunch 11:30/12
nap 12:30/1pm for 2 hours give or take 15 min but pretty consistent
snack around 4 or 5pm but if she's busy she'll go without it
Dinner 6:30/7pm
bath and bed by 7:30/8pm

all time depend on her wake up but she never sleeps past 7:30am on purpose and she never has a nap later than 1pm so preserve a bedtime of no later than 8pm except on occasion when we have plans that don't happen too often to preserve bedtime.  She deals much better with OT now but once she gets 30min past her bedtime we can expect a short night.

Ds is 2.5 years now and after a month or so when I thought he was ready to drop his nap, we are back in a really nice routine. 2 things I am ruled by now. He won't sleep til 6 hours after wake up time when we are at home. Not even bother for a nap in the cot! Has to be buggy or car now. So on nursery days we have;

7.00 light comes on or I wake him
12.00 nap. (god knows how!!!)
1ish he wakes (surprise a short nap)
7pm he is asleep most nights

On non nursery days we have a longer nap(not just for my benefit of course!)
Between 7am and 8am wake up
between 1pm and 2pm goes to sleep
I always wake him between 2pm and 3pm - depends on when I want bedtime to be
Asleep for night between 7.30 and 8pm

I am so grateful for the advice that he still needs a nap. All his RL peers have dropped it.

Mya is 17 months and has just gone to 1 nap. Nap length varies greatly now as she is getting used to 1 nap, can be anywhere from around an hour to 3 hours.

6:30/7: awake, wake at 7 am if necessary
7:15: Breakfast
10:30: Milk or snack
11:00: Nap, she stays in bed until 1:30 even if she took a short nap
1:30/2: Lunch
4/4:30: Dinner
Bath, PJ's, Stories
5-6: Bedtime (depends on nap length)

Loving our routine at 14 mths, and her pm nap lines up with big sis so I have 2 hrs free in the afternoon!  I hope it lasts a bit longer but I know the 2-1 will be coming up soon.

Wake up 7:15 (we wake her)
am nap 10-11:30 (we wake her)
pm nap 3-4:30 (she asks to go to bed at 2 so I take her up there then, I tried waiting since it has been taking 45 min or more to go to sleep but she gets fussy, gets her sleep sack and comes to me with it.  It is such an awesome break for me!)
Asleep 8/8:15

My DS is 18mos... He's been on 1 nap from 13mos.
6.15-7.30am Awake, 100mls milk
breakfast 1 hour later
9.30/10am snack
11.30/12 lunch
12.30/1pm story - usually 3 short books followed by milk 100mls then nap of 1 1/2 to 3 hours( I don't let him sleep more than 3 hours or past 4pm)
snack and water when he wakes
5.30/6pm dinner
bath by 6.30pm
milk 100mls then bed by 7/7.15 pm
STTN - unless ill or teething.

I'm so much more relaxed about DSs day now, when he was littler I was completely OTT with a strict EASY. Now that I know him so much better I can just tell if he needs more sleep, more A time or an earlier bedtime etc. I'm really loving this routine! Seems he is too. ;)

A times are still all-important here for self-settling, although now at 16 months Spirited DD has become able to deal with some degree of UT, babbling herself to sleep. Our routine is similar to when we went to one nap at 11 months, with minor A-time changes every time she recovered from a bout of sickness or teething.

08:00 -- Wake, breakfast
10:30 -- Snack
12:00 -- Lunch
13:00 -- Cup of milk
13:15-15:15 -- Nap
15:30 -- Snack
17:00/17:30 -- Dinner
20:00 -- Cup of milk
20:30 -- Bed

We had been using a bottle still but decided it was best to do away with it altogether after using it a lot for APOPing while sick.

DS1, 32mos:
7:30/8am wake
1-2:30 nap
8pm in bed, but he has been taking at least 30mins to go to sleep these days so I think his nap needs to start decreasing a bit

DS2, 12mos:
7am wake
12:30-2 nap (sometimes longer)
7/7:30 bed
*sometimes he still has a short am nap of about 20mins sometime between 10-11, and this pm nap will be from 1/1:30-3ish

25 mths

Awake anywhere between 6-7, more like 6:45/7 on average
Nap 1 - 2:30 (just started capping this, used to be 2+ hrs)
Bedtime asleep by 7:45/8

It's taken us reflux and 20 teeth to get here though.  And a TON of constant tweaking!

This is our new routine which seems to be working.  We needed to tweak a bit b/c we were getting some serious EW.

Awake: anywhere between 6:30-7:30 ( usually I wake her @ 7)
Nap: 1-2:30/3 (I wake her @ 3 if she's not awake yet)
Bedtime:7pm

DD @ 32 months:

6:30-7:30-wake up (it definitely varies...sometimes as late as 8)
Has not been napping in general...will sometimes do a car nap for a short 15-30 minutes depending on where we are going ;)
I STRIVE for a 7:00pm bedtime...but she tends to stall or take until closer to 8 to fall asleep.

At 17mo our routine looks like this on days at home for the nap:

07.30 WU & BF
A=5hr15
12:45-15.00 Nap followed by BF if he asks
A=5hr
19.20 BF
20.00 BT (asleep) In cot 15-20mins before this.

This can vary by anything up to an hour if he wakes late or early and/or has a shorter nap in the buggy.

I love our new one nap schedule, DD2 switched to one nap at 18 mths, she is now 19 mths old.

Wake up 8 am (I wake her)
Nap 1-3:30 (I get her up at 4 pm)
Bed 8 pm

No NW, no EW, nothing, DD1 was never like this!  And DD1 (4 yrs old) also naps from 2:30-4 so I get a break from 2-4 pm.  I work at home so it is a much needed break!

Mama_C - it is so reassuring to see your routine ;)  I always feel bad when I am considering capping L's nap even more.

We're having a wonky patch at the moment (wonder week induced ::) )  but before things went awry our routine at 14-16 mos was something like:

6am WU and bf
7am breakfast
10am snack
12pm lunch
12.30pm-1.45pm nap (1hr15 - capped or we get EWs)
2.30pm snack
5pm dinner
6.10pm milk
7pm BT

Although I think she's about due for her nap to be capped a little more (WU creeping earlier)

Hey MM - we are having the same battle at BT with Sofia... I am unsure if it's a routine issue (is 1.5-2hrs day time sleep the problem?) Nap times are fine.

Current routine is:
7am wake up (we wake her, she sleeps  later if we are off work)
1pm nap (regardless of whether she got up later) sleeps for 1.5-2hrs
Put her to bed at 7.45-8pm - she can still be chatting / shouting  until gone 9pm...

Am going to post and get some views from the experts!
