Title: Intrducing bottle at 3 weeks - expressed milk or formula?
Post by: Jay's Mum_Australian on January 11, 2006, 22:50:45 pm
I was interested to read Tracy's recommendation to introduce a bottle a day very young, at 2 or 3 weeks. But I'm not sure if she means expressed breast milk or formula?
Assuming it's up to me, and I prefer to keep my milk supply up and use expressed milk:
-if I want to replace the dream feed/11pm with a bottle,
-when's the best time to express,
-and how much would I expect to feed a 3 week old average weight boy?

Thanks for any help!

Lisa

Hi Lisa!  :D

You can use breastmilk or formula. :D  I would offer 4 ounces the first couple of times to determine what capacity he is at.  Though I'm not an expert on breastfeeding so not sure when the best time is to pump.  If he single side feeds right now, I would probably pump the other side after you feed him.  I would post a question in the breastfeeding forum though, you'll get more answers there, the moderators are great!  :D
