Title: how many feeds at 7.5 months
Post by: kellyhushhh on January 17, 2006, 19:00:06 pm
Hello,

Ds is 7.5months and currently bottle feeds at 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and dream feed at 10.30pm, drinking approx 7-8 ounces each feed, he has his solids at 8.30am, 1pm and 5.30pm.

He doesnt feed in the night and isnt ravenous for his 7am bottle.

Just recently though he has been been taking less at the dreamfeed, last night he only took 3 ounces and that was a struggle.

Just wondering what i should do and just wondering if i should maybe be dropping one of his bottles during the day, most books i read state that babies this age are on three bottles.

How many feeds do your babies have?

Many thanks for any advice

Kelly xx

There's really no set age to start dropping bottles. Most babies take 3 or 4 bottles each day until they turn 1. When Tyler was that age, I followed his lead and dropped the dreamfeed around then when he lost interest in it, and he stayed on 4 bottles until his 1st birthday. It does sound like your DS is losing interest in the dreamfeed, which is pretty common once solids start going well. If he hasn't been very hungry for his first morning bottle, he probably won't miss the dreamfeed. You can either phase it out gradually or go cold turkey and see what happens. If he's happy with 4 bottles during the day, there's really no reason to push him down to 3. HTH!

My dd is 8 mos & we just phased out the df, leaving 4 feedings (bf) per day.  So far it has worked well for us...

Sounds like he's giving you the cue that he's ready to drop the dream feed.  You may want to stay on 4 daytime bottles until he acts less interested in some of them.  My DS started sleeping through the night with no feedings by this age but we still had 4 BFs a day until he was about 9-10 months when we dropped to 3 (due to his lack of hunger/interest).
