Post by: catanmax on January 30, 2006, 18:32:24 pm
Hey there everyone, I have recently bought teats for my baby that have a one, a two and a three on the outside, I remember Tracey saying something about the turning the bottle depending on how the baby sucks, but i can't remember the ins and outs of it! Can anyone explain, thanks in advance!

I changed my ds to the bottle after 4.5 weeks of bf hell. It did not go well!  I feed him with Haberman bottles(which are advertised on the home page of this website) for two weeks.  This was because the milk doesn't drip out from these bottles and was good for my ds as he was used to the breast.  I then moved him on to ordinary bottles with a one hole teat which is a slow flow and then once he was 2 months I moved him on to a 2 hole teat which is a bit faster.  I tried him with the 3 hole today as he has just turned 3 months but it was a bit two fast so I will wait a few weeks before a try it again.  This is what Tracy recommends in her book:

0-1 month: Haberman bottles
2 month: 1 hole teat(slow flow)
3 month: 2 hole teat(slow flow)
4 month: 3 hole teat(medium flow)

You also get fast flow teats as well but I don't know when you should move them on to them as I don't think Tracy mentions them in her book.  Hope this has help. :)

I always changed nipple size when they were getting frustrated with it and/or the time that it took them to finish the feed kept getting longer.  :)

Hi Catx,
Do you mean the variable flow nipple, like Avent?  Whatever number is on top, is the correct flow.  So if you want your baby to have slow-flow, make sure the "I" is on top.  Does that make sense?
