When do people introduce their los to Baby Einsteins?

My 9-month-old has been watching them since he was 2 months old. He responded really well to them, so we kept putting them on. He watches one a day now--perfect length of time for me to take a shower.

We've been doing it once a day usually in the evenings since she was 4 months old. I put one on right after she has her dinner, and after it's over it's bath, books, bottle bed. I love them.

I am the same; she started to really enjoy them at about 3-4 months. She now gets one a day before her evening bath. She adores the music and the puppets.

AK started to pay attention to he videos when she was around 8 months old.
The only bad thing is that now she tries to imitate a puppet in one of the videos and now she shakes her head *all* the time :P

Hi! As a mother of a spirited boy I understand that sometimes you really need your baby to be quiet and relaxed. However, i don't think tv is a good idea at this age. It has bad consequences both in short and long term. It could even increase the probabilities of depeloping attention disorder syndrome.
"Until more research is done about the effects of TV on very young children, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend television for children younger than two years of age."

My ds loves them and has been watching them since 5 months(wish I knew about them sooner)
He watches one when I find he is getting fussy not from just being tired but more so just needs a break or quite time. If he fusses though it then we shut it off, but mostly he loves them and is good to go again after.
Again, I think they are great :)

My dd has been watching since she was a year old, she got a box set (from Costco) for her birthday. It is so cute to watch her get up and dance with the music everytime the video is on. I would recommend any of the ones with animals in them, at least those are the ones the my dd loves, the others don't keep her attention as much, but she still likes to watch them. Do you know someone who you could borrow a video from, so that way you could see for yourself if your dd likes it?

I bought the baby mozart dvd last month for my dd. When I first watched it, I regretted spending the money as dd ignored it. But the next time put it on she didn't move! She laughed at the different things on the screen and danced to the music. It's useful for when she's tired but it's too early for her nap as she'll sit on my knee watching it and be very relaxed. We've watched it about once or twice a week and I sit with her, telling her about the things she is seeing.

Will has been watching them since he was about 4 months and he loves them. He watches them for a short while as part of bedtime wind down and when his main meal is going down.

My DD started watching them when she was 10 months old (perfect for a quick shower)! I will start showing them to DS at around 10 months. Unfortunately he seems to watch more TV than DD as a baby. Our house is just more chaotic now.

Today I attempted to cut dd's nails whilst watching Baby Mozart and she let me! This has never happened before and thought it was worth trying to do it when she was so engrossed in the TV. Just thought I'd share.

My lo has been watching them from 2 months and now has a different one for every day of the week (highly recommend Monet, my lo loves it!) I incorporate it into his bedtime routine and thats when DH and I eat. He gets excited now when he sees the Caterpiller come on screen!
I don't think a little TV hurts, some people think its the devil, I just see it as another way for him to learn.

wow! after reading this thread, I'm going to get a DVD as soon as I can... I had heard about Baby Einstein, but thought my DS was too small for it (3 months). I sometimes let him watch cartoons on TV while I have my lunch and he just sits there loving the colours and action...

Just wanted to see if anyone elses lo smiles and laughs at the first when that catapiler goes across the screen. My lo just loves him, he can be crying and he sees that catapiler and hes just in heaven :)

Our son is 6 months old. He does not watch any television, Baby Einstein or other. That may not be the answer you are waiting for ;) but I thought I should chip in even though it is a different point of view. We follow the american academy of pediatric that advocates no television watching before a child is 2 years old. I know my niece is 2 years old and really like her Baby Mozart DVD.

My DD (now 20 months) LOVES Baby Einstein! She has been watchng them since she was 3 mo old. My DS is now 3 months and starting to watch them. In response to what the AAP says about tv I think that everything in moderation is the key. Baby Einstein is the perfect time DVD, it is not too long to bore them but when you start to get the older DVD's they really teach the LOs a LOT. I highly recommend them!

My daughter is 8 mos. old, and we've been letting her watch the videos since around 6 months. We average around 1-2 times a week, and as someone else mentioned before, it's the only time she'll sit still to cut her nails! She enjoys it on the whole, will wave her arms and smile when the caterpillar comes out. We also have her listen to the Einstein music cds. She now turns to the TV when the initial instrumental tuning sounds come on at the beginning of each CD (similar to the DVDs); it's so funny. I don't really want her to watch too much tv., but don't think it's the devil either. I learned alot of knowledge about the world through t.v.!

My first dd started watching and really enjoying at 4 months old. And I plan to start my ds on them in a few weeks. They are so great and really capture children's attention. They also helped my first dd learn her abc song, colors, planets, shapes, and nature. She is really smart and I think these videos helped her learn things faster. She was an early talker to which I don't know if these were instrumental in helping but I do attribute it to them some.
I highly recommend these videos to any parent!

My dd is 4 months. I don't put the dvd's in often...maybe once a week when nothing else seems to be working. I have used the one with colours and the one with shapes. Seems to hold her attention fairly well. Might try to use as part of wind down routine at night (thanks for the suggestion!) I think the dvd's look great!! At least they are educational and not some mindless cartoon.

Just a word of warning ;D
We started Baby E. when my ds was around 3 months old...well, he's 4.5 years old now and still LOVES Baby E! ;) So, be prepared to watch it for awhile. He can't wait until this new baby comes so they can watch it together :)
I think Baby E. is a lot different than other T.V. It isn't fast moving-quick flashing animations like a cartoon; it's more like someone putting on a puppet show and playing with toys in front of your baby. It's entertaining, for sure, but my 4.5 year old is not addicted to T.V....does not have ADD or ADHD...and has a very long attention span. Not to mention his first word was "circle" (from Baby Newton) and he learned a ton through these videos including sign language with the more recent Baby Wordsworth.
These days, my son may watch 1-2 hours of videos/week (we don't even have a T.V., but we occasionally watch something on the comptuer)...and he was watching 30 min. a day when he was a baby (it was always Baby E.). He can play by himself for 4 hours...and he rarely ever asks to watch a video.
I think Baby E. is definitely different than regular T.V. programming. Most adults can't bear to watch it because it is so different.

I think the key here is "moderation". Obviously if you're planting your child infront of the TV all day and not exposing them to fresh air and their imagination, etc., you're in for trouble.
It's not that I haven't allowed DD to watch TV, she just has never been interested. My MIL bought me many videos (incl. Baby E.) and I tried them and she wouldn't even look at them. Now that she's 21 months, we put the Baby E. Farm movie in for her and she couldn't get enough of it. I find my 6mo old DS watching the TV as well while the farm movie is on.
I think they're great videos however they (and TV) are not a substitute for parenting and in my opinion, are sometimes over-used. Again, it should be everything in moderation.... just my 2 cents.

As far as I am aware the reason that babies should not watch TV is that the images move so quickly. Babies brains are not hard wired and so if they are sat in front of these images the brain processing will wire up bieng used to fast processing and not slow processing. This is why they link it to Attention disorders as the baby/child cannot then adapt to the slow processing required of most types of play and winding down. Computer games can do it as well.
The Baby Einstein DVD's I have are excellent and seem to have taken account of this looking at what catches a babies eye. I highly reccomend them and cannot see anything in the DVD's we use with our daughter which could damage her brain :) We also have the lullaby CD which she has on every night on repeat for 3 hours or so. She has been watching Baby Beethoven since whe was 3 months and loves it. I do it in the morning activity period once or twice a week.

I've been experimenting off and on for a few weeks to see what time of day would be best for dd to watch. Hadn't really found one. Didn't think to maybe include in bedtime routine---will take that suggestion and see if it helps to wind her down at night! Thanks!

My 11 week old doesn't really like Baby Einstein for more than a few minutes. She seems interested and then starts to cry. So I guess it's too much for her right now?
A little off subject - About babies watching tv - she is really bad about watching the screen. If the tv is on while I'm walking by with her or she's in her bouncing seat playing, if she catches site of the tv, she's transfixed. I have to keep her away from the tv or she'll stare at it. Has anyone had this problem with their baby?

mlee - I've noticed that my dd really focuses on the TV when it's on - which is great for cutting nails by the way!!! Otherwise we don't let her watch it much and haven't used the baby einstein's for several weeks now - just kinda forgot.
