Title: STUPID QUESTION - ROUTINE V'S CAREFREE APPROACH + HOW MUCH DO YOU GO OUT?
Post by: Mum of girl, boy, boy on February 24, 2006, 23:04:52 pm
Hi everyone. I am looking for some opinions from y'all. I have a daughter who is just under two and I spent some time trying to follow easy in the early days and DD was a good sleeper belongs I listened to her cues. It still remains the same today. The problem I now have is that if she doesn't get enough sleep she goes completely mental and is so grumpy (it only takes an illness, teeth or me going out and her sleeping in the car to throw it). I believed that getting her to sleep when she needed it was the best thing but I see other mums skips naps etc way more and their children don't seem to be to bothered by it.  I am trying to work out if I have a sensitive child or whether I have made a rod for my own back by always putting sleep and food at the top of my priorities. My DS was born 11 weeks ago and I am trying to get him on some sort of EASY (difficult with so many winter illnesses) but now wonder how much I need to balance staying in to make sure he gets proper naps. I would post this in the 2 under 2 but I think it could be a wider question such as: how much can you get out without it affecting the routine??? I would be curious to know your thoughts + how bad are your toddlers / babies if naps are missed. Does anyone else find this tough?

p.s DD still needs 2 hours 30 to be full charged + 12 / 13 hours at night. Only leaves am to do things.

Not stupid I dont think. I HAVE to be particular about my sons naps--he is 9 months old. If I weren't then I would be even more miserable than him!! I discovered that he NEEDS his sleep. I do notice that a lot of people I know are not nearly as conscious about their childrens naps-and some suffer and some do not. I think it depends on the child--as all things do, right??? My son gets very annoyed when he is overtired....and is one of those sleepers who will not fall asleep in my arms---and a lot of the time, strange places are difficult too. I don't think I've made a bad choice about putting sleep first--as a result I have a much MUCH happier baby, and my home is happier too.
