Title: 13 months travelling on plane
Post by: sa on February 25, 2006, 20:34:59 pm
we will be travelling on a 12 hours plane journey soon. i am getting really worried.

DS is a very "active" sleeper. he roll and toss all over his cot, and sometimes i found him sitting up for 1 second and roll to the other side of his cot. he has a big cotbed, i always wonder if this is the problem.

anyway, we have a seat booked for him (instead of requesting the bulkhead position and to use the babycot airline provides as i am sure DS will not fit in it). if i let him sleep across on the seat, how do i make sure he doesn't fall on the floor?

any tips??

Hi:
My husband and I travelled with our then one year old on a similar length trip and although we didn't buy a seat for our dd we were able to get middle seats.  We placed dd in the middle seat and looped the seatbelt around her so that she wouldn't fall off during her sleep.  Dd  slept great and I even got to shut my eyes for a while.  Ask the flight attendant, they are usually experienced and they will tell you just how to loop the seatbelt for baby safety.
Other tips:  bring warmer clothes for the plane, they tend to be a little bit colder than the airport. Change his diaper before getting on the plane. Bring a few toys to entertain.  Lots of easy access snacks. Walk around with ds whenever posible. Give him lots of walking/floor time when waiting to load plane. And most importantly .... bring a whole lot of patience with you.
I hope you have a great trip and a even better vacation destination!
Pat
