Title: crackers and wheat allergies
Post by: NewMommy724 on March 03, 2006, 23:12:18 pm
At what age to babies start gumming on crackers? My son is seven months, and we've done all the cereals, veggies, fruits, and have started meats. I'd like to get him started on crackers or some other kind of grain besides cereal because he's sick of cereals now. Is it too soon?

Also, ds is at high risk for wheat allergies so we're holding off until a year to do wheat. What are some alternatives for him? (We live in the US.)

Thanks!

Give it a try and see what he thinks.  There are barley baby cookies out there, and I assume rice crackers.  Just gotta read a lot of labels.  Check out the allergy food list near the top of the forum.  It may have some brand names you can use.

All the ones I've seen in the grocery stores have wheat in them. I called the health food store, and they had some wheat-free arrowroot cookies, but they were specifically labeled for toddlers. What's the difference between a toddler cookie and a baby cookie?

I looked over the lists in this forum, but I didn't see anything listed as wheat-free. Maybe I overlooked them. Does anyone know of any?

Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron has a recipe for millet crackers..... Haven't tried it yet but it's on my to-try list! :)

There are rice crackers and rice finger cereals at Whole Foods.
