Yes, it is very normal for a 4.5 month old to wake at night. It's not just about weight - sleeping through the night is a developmental issues, as well as a hunger one. How many times is he waking? And how long is he up for?

At his age that is very normal. When he wakes, wait a minute before going to him to make sure he isn't going to resettle himself - I like to count to 100 first (sometimes DD used to fall back asleep before I had finished). Otherwise, do feed him - just keep the lights dim or off, don't talk or play with him, only change him if necessary and put him right back to bed. Also concentrate on getting as many calories as possible into him during the day - you may want to do a cluster feed in the evening if you don't already. Eventually it will only be one night feeding (not 1 or 2) and then eventually/hopefully none!
