Title: The thing about milk
Post by: Ruggie on March 17, 2006, 04:56:03 am
Hello

DS is 16 mo and is currently taking a 2pm (200ml) bottle and a bottle (240ml) before bed. He takes it via a soft spout sippy cup.
Just wondering when do you cut/change them? And how?

I am in the middle of having to move from 2 to 1 nap, so might as well start thinking about the milk thing.

Any stories of what your lo did, when and how would be appreciated.

hi,

everychild is differant, but i remember that my dd gave up her last bottle of milk (bedtime one) when she was 14mths old.  To be honest i would just see if he gives them up on his own, he's not having an excessive amount of milk so its not really a problem.  most toddlers still have a beaker of milk with their meals or in the morning and afternoon and then before bed.  Now i just wish my dd was still interested in milk! ::)

HTH :) :)

Funnily enough, for the past 2 days he hasn't paid much interest in his milk. Been taking just 50-100ml at bed time. So just when I am thinking about him weening off the bottle, he is doing it on his own. I am thinking the transition to 1 nap does have a flow on effect.

Just to clarrify, you are not giving up milk all together?  They still need about 12-16 oz per day for the calcium.  My dd has a cup of milk mid morning with her snack and again mid afternoon after her nap with a snack.

Some babies do give it up completely of their own accord. My dd gave up her cups of milk at 15 months and has refused all other milk since then - she is now 2.5!! Just make sure you offer cheese and yogurt daily. FYI 40g of cheese equals about 7 oz milk in fat and calcium content.

Is this the same for all cheese? Holly will only eat philly or dairy lea?
Do you know the equivilants for petit filous type yogs?

I took Holly off her bottles last week and she won't drink any milk from her sippy, cup or straw cup.

Its really getting me down, I wish I'd left her on her bottle!

Hi, My BB is 14 months old and I'm unsure of how much milk he should be drinking on a daily basis.
He will take his water/ juice from his beaker & feed himself but refuses point blank to attempt to feed himself his milk whether it be in bottle or beaker,
Any suggestions?????
