Title: Sudden night wakings
Post by: hollyandchloesmom on March 21, 2006, 09:22:35 am
For the past week holly has been waking during the night, normally about 9.30/10.00.  She was teething and had a cold and I have by accident, done accidential parenting.  Got her out of the cot, gave bottle, slept on me, in the cot out the cot, cuddles, nightlight, her sleeping music.  Anyway had enough, got Tracey's book out and realised I have accidential parented.  So decided to do what she said, I go in, no fuss, no night light, no music, don't speak just do p/d and stand next to the cot.  She gets upset, so I then do some gentle patting, then just keep my hand there so she knows I'm there, this goes on for 5 to 10 mins then I just stay by the cot and eventually walk away.

Last night I never had the normal 9.30/10.00 waking, she just cried out and resettled but it happened at 12.30.

Should I do wake to sleep and do you actually wake then or just move them so they resettle.  Also her routine is like this:

6.30/7.00     wake and nuby of milk
7.30            breakfast
9.00            nap - 45 mins
10.30          snack
11.30/12.00 lunch
1.00            nap of 1.5 hrs
2.30/3.00    nuby of milk
4.30/5.00    tea
6.00           bath, and nuby of milk
7.00           bed

Is there anything I am doing wrong, to cause the night wakings. Have stopped the accidential parenting I hope so hopefully things will calm down.

Any advice please?

have u tried pu/pd - that's how i had to break my lo of any bad habits i created due to her waking from reflux, teething etc. it worked very well although it was a little heart breaking for me in the beginning - but if u stay consistant it definately is worth the outcome!  your routine looks pretty good...:)

on second thought - have u tried stretching out the time after the am nap a bit..instead of 2 1/2 hrs try to go for 3...if u do try do it slowly 15 min or so at a time...a little tweaking here and there may be all u need to do...
