Title: How should I introduce a lovey/cuddly?

I'd like to introduce a lovey/cuddly to my baby before he starts daycare in a month as right now I'm his lovey.  It seems like a silly question but I wondered how other people introduced these objects my older son never really had one until he was 3 years old.  I'm also a little concerned as he's a real mommy's boy and even lately Daddy doesn't always cut it.  I've also never left him with anyone but Dad.

I just gave my DD one at 4.5months at bedtime when she rejected her dummy  :) and started sucking her thumb  :(
She loves hers and no longer sucks her thumb.
However i have heard some childcare centres don't allow them so check first.

i bought my DS a really soft little blanket with a  bear's head on the center, and slept with it for two nights, after that i gave it to him everytime he was going to sleep, and now its so funny 'cause everytime he is going to sleep he holds it and sunngles his face really happy with the blanky, he totally loves it!!!!

I gave DD a soft duckey a few weeks ago, I just bought it when she was with me (so I could see if it was something she liked) and then kept it on me all day giving it to her every now and then.  that night and gave it to her when she went into her cot and she cuddled it, ever since then it is held tight during every nap and all night long  :-*

When you cuddle with your baby during the day, put the lovey/cuddly between you or snuggle it in with you both. When ds was younger, I slept with his blanket for a few nights....sounds crazy, but I read that sometimes if it smells like Mommy they'll be more inclined to attach to a lovey/cuddly.

i give my ds a muslin square to cuddle....  that way i can be washed and replaced easily and i have always got several with me!!!!!   my friends son got VERY attatched to a blanky and it was all hell let loose whenever it needed washing or if they forgot it!!!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.  I ended up taking a stuffed animal and as one mom suggested, sleeping with it for a few nights.  So far he's not all that interested in it but I try to give it to him as much as I can especially before naps and hold it between us.  I'll also start giving it to him when I have to leave the house etc.  I haven't tried putting it in his crib yet for naps or bedtime as I was a little concerned he might look at it as a playtoy and it might be too stimulating.  My dh doesn't seem to think so and says the novelty would soon wear off so I'll have to try that next.

You might also want to get two of the toy, so when it needs washing or if it gets lost you've got a spare. If you rotate them they should wear evenly and the lo won't know the difference.
