Title: Why is Activity importanty after Eating
Post by: Skylar's Mom on April 08, 2006, 01:29:02 am
I have a 12 week old and I am curious why Activity is important after Eating? I just switched from breastfeeding to formula, and finally my baby goes to sleep without any protest so I hate to rouse him for Activity. However, if there is a good reason medically or psychologically I want to know. Please help me understand.

The idea of activity after feeding is so that your baby doesn't fall asleep with a bottle every time. Then he won't associate going to sleep with a bottle and have to have a bottle to go to sleep. For example,  if he wakes in the middle of the night and is not hungry, he can put himself back to sleep without you having to feed him. We always gave our son a bottle right before every nap and bed. We would sit him up to burp, which would wake him a little and then put him in his bed. So, he was actually going to bed awake, but the bottle helped to calm and relax him before going to sleep. You could try something like that. But, I would just make sure your LO is falling asleep mostly on his own in his bed. That way you don't have a habit to break later on.
