Title: Does waking up our LO's from nap earlier than usual work?!
Post by: SBailey on April 17, 2006, 21:27:07 pm
My DS is 21 months old and has always loved his sleep, our day generally looks like this:

7am (ish) - wake and have breakfast
12noon - lunch
1pm - nap for approximately 2 hours
5pm - dinner
6.30 - 7pm bath and bed

For the last week or so I've started putting DS to bed at 7.30pm as he is wide awake but instead of going to sleep within the usual 20 minutes it's taking him 2-3 hours to go over.  On Friday last week he only had a 15 minute nap and was fine so I was considering dropping his afternoon nap altogether but after reading some of the other posts I now wonder whether I should just wake him after 1 hour and see what happens?!  I'm worried that if I start waking him after 1 hour and it makes no difference to bedtime then there's no going back to the nice long 2 hour nap he currently has in the afternoon!  What do you think I should do?

If Henry is still sleeping, I wake him from his nap no later than 2:45pm to preserve his bedtime of 7:00pm. From what you wrote, I would suggest waking your ds no later than 2:30pm to preserve his bedtime.

There might also be an issue with the fact that its light out so much later than it used to be. I know Henry's been having a rough time at night since the time change - its like he knows the time is different AND its still so light out so he just won't sleep. You might consider black out blinds or tinfoil on his windows to block out some of the light. That seems to help here.

HTH!!
