Title: Help! 3.5 to 4hr EASY transition
Post by: KDawn on April 26, 2006, 00:09:05 am
Hi, today went pretty good at stretching out the E's and A's.  She slept for 2 1/2 hrs this morning, which I had to wake her to feed her because we had to leave the house.  My problem is that she needs a nap always around 6.  I don't think I should be putting her to bed this early, but she naps and then I wake her between 7 and 7:30 to eat.  I then keep her up for 1/2hr and then to bed.  Is this what I should be doing?  And should I still try to df?  I'm trying to go to a 3 1/2 EASY, possibly a 4hr.

Hi, just wondering if someone could give me some advice.  During this past week we transitioned to a 3.5 - 4 hr EASY.  It's going great except she still wants to eat at night every 4 hrs.  On the 3 hr EASY she eventually started eating 3 hrs around the clock.  She used to go around 5 hrs at night without feeding.  The day goes excellent with her A time stretched out to almost 2 hrs and naps varying around the 2 hr mark.  No complaints, just at night.  Also wondering if the soother is the problem, she only gets it to sleep, never when she is awake.

Sorry no one has replied. I will try to help you..
Just a few questions--how old is your LO? Also, when she wakes every 4 hours to eat...is she actually eating alot? or would you say it is more of a habit? My DS was used to waking up @ 2 am, but only took 2 ounces or so..so I knew it wasn't hunger.
What is your schedule like? Maybe if you post it we could assist with phasing out the 6pm nap..which I am sure messes up the night time.
I personally wouldn't worry about the soother. DS is 11 months old and uses one to go to sleep. In fact, I started using it when we started EASY. The problem occurs when LO wakes up when it falls out or whatever.
"should I still try to DF?" how has it been going? Do you currently do one? It really is meant to top up your LO, so sleeping through the night is possible..around 10-11 pm....some babies do not want one...but some do. I remember it taking a few times for Lizwe to really take 5 ounces.
HTH..and look forward to seeing your routine

kierraandkimberly

we are currently transitioning to a 4 hour easy and are inthe same situation as you.  the daytime transition is going very smoothly, but he's still waking at night.  take a look at the thread "help, i'm losing steam" i've gotten some great tips.  just today teezee told me that it's common for them to regress a bit, so we're just going to hang in there for a week or so and let him really settle into the 4 hr.  hopefully, the night wakings will go away themselves, or at least reduce, and if not, i'll try pupd.  keep me posted. we're in the same boat---needing sleep :)

Hi, and thanks to everyone who is trying to help us!  I'm not very good at keeping close track of schedules, I just try to keep her feeds 3.5 - 4 hrs apart.
This was todays schedule:  Sun S 6 pm
E 7 pm (woke her up to eat)
A for 20min, to lotion, diaper, jammies
S 7:30 (tried to keep her longer, but she was too tired)
                                            E 10  wasn't a dreamfeed because she woke up
                                            E 1:45
E 4:45 (only let her eat for a few minutes because I wanted her to have a big feed in am)
woke around 7:15 and played in crib till I woke!  oops
                                            E 7:30
                                            A 7:40 for 1 1/2 hr
                                            S 9  1 hr 45 min
                                            E 11
A 11:10  for 1 1/2 (tried to keep her up, but was super tired, laid her in crib and fell asleep in 2 min!)
                                            S 12:15  slept for 2hr 5 min
                                            E 2:30
                                            A 2:40 for 1hr 20 min
                                            S 4:00 1 1/2 hr
                                            E 5:30
A 5:40 just relaxed and tried to keep her up as long as possible
tried to cluster feed @ 6:40, wouldn't eat, but  was tired, so daddy got her ready for bed
                                            S 7:00  fell asleep instantly
So, that was our day today.  Naps are no problem, she always puts herself to sleep.  Mind you she has a soother for naps and night sleep only.  Maybe that is the night problem?  Tomorrow she gets her 4mo needles, so I'm sure everything might be a little out of whack.  Sun night she woke once or twice between the feeds, but we just put the soother back in and she's sleeping before we leave the room.  The 5ish feed I've tried just letting her have a little, cause otherwise her am feeds get messed up.  Should I try eliminating the 5 feed.  SOmetimes she won't wake till 2:30-3 am to eat, and that is perfect because after that she sleeps till morning.  Usually without waking up at all.  If only I could remember what the trick is for that to happen!
