Title: Four Flights of Stairs/DD started crawling
Post by: CharlotteandCharlie on May 03, 2006, 22:36:40 pm
We should have planned ahead but got discouraged everytime we tried but does anyone have any advice as to what we can do with gates and our dd and all of our stairs.  I don't have a problem teaching her (eventually) how to do them but half are hardwood and half are carpet.  I couldn't live with myself if she fell wrong on her neck or head.

Any product tips or ideas?

We just installed the Kidco gate that can be mounted at an angle.  So far it's working fine.  No idea how to teach stairs, I thought I would let her get a bit better at pulling up first.

Jenn, can you tell me more about the model?  Stairs, pressure, pen like (circle).  I went to the website but there are alot of different ones.

Many thanks.

Stacy, are you trying to get me reported to Child Services?  ;D

http://www.kidco.com/main.taf?erube_fh=kidco&kidco.submit.gateDetails=1&kidco.modelNumber=G22&kidco.bc=gc   This one.  Also comes in wood, but $$$.  You also have to buy 2 mounting kits to install it.  Although, turns out we only needed one.  :P  But, a person can always find a use for the screws and such in it.  Dad actually suggested a silk rope around an ankle and fastened to a chair to keep her in one area.   ::)    She's now pulling up, maybe...    Hee hee!

So we put a gate at the top of the main stair case but it hits and landing and goes further to the upstairs and is carpeted.  One side is a metal bannister and the other is a wall.  All she wants to do is climb climb climb.  She is really good at it but when I am doing dishes or making dinner I can't get to her in time to supervise.

Does anyone have any tricks for slowing them down or a temporary road block on the stairs till I have the time to supervise?

My friends had a bannister on each side and just put a 2x6 on the first step.  It was great but we can't do that.

Once that crawling starts those gears begin to turn in overdrive.  She loves her freedom.

p.s. Great new pic of Charlotte, Jenn ... and a great name!!
