Title: erratic night wakings--need to start solids?
Post by: cheriec on May 16, 2006, 19:43:52 pm
In tracy's book, she says that erratic night wakings are almost always due to hunger.  My ds is 2 wks shy of 6 months.  After he ramped up the night wakings, i increased his daytime feeds with (4hr easy) to 7, 11, 3, 5,7, 10df.  The night wakings are same as ever and he takes a full feed at each one.  So yesterday, i started rice cereal 3x/day.  Anyone have similar situation? Did the solids hold your babies over.  BTW, he's a big guy--19lbs. He's been EBF. he goes to sleep awake.  he naps well in the day, no paci, everything else seems to be in line.

waiting for an end to the incessant wakings....

cheriec, I love your avatar, what a cutie!!

I dealt with terrible, endless night wakings myself until fairly recently. My DS is also quite big for his age (was just under 20lbs at 6mo as well), and for a long time his wakings were hunger - I could even hear his tummy growling. Starting solids did not help though. It's a myth that starting cereal will cut night wakings.  :(  There aren't a lot of calories in it, so it doesn't sustain them.

When he wakes, is it really erratic, or are the times at all close together? Is there anything that could be disturbing him?
