Title: Bathtime question
Post by: Marisa's Mom on July 09, 2006, 03:36:53 am
When did you stop using the baby soap (like the Johnsons & Johnsons Baby Wash) and start using regular soap with your LO?

DD is 15 months, and we are still using J&J Baby Wash. We put it in the tub, wash her with a wash cloth, then take her out to dry her. No rinsing, since somebody told us that it was so mild that complete rinsing was not required. Do you rinse off your LO after bath?

My 4 year old still uses the baby soap!  I never did the soap in the water, rather I lathered it right on them and rinsed (well, now dd1 does it herself)

I think the big advantage of something like J&J is the "tearless" quality in case she gets it in her eyes.  I know we're not planning on moving away from it anytime soon.  I put the soap right on Katie and then rinse her off with the bath water.  I don't think it makes a real difference though, perhaps if she gets really dirty applying it directly to her might get her cleaner.

Thanks for the responses. I hadn't thought of applying the baby wash directly on, maybe with a wash cloth or something, instead of pouring it into the bath. Hmmmm... wonder if a DD would like a "fun" bath mitt.

How often do you give your LO a bath?   DD usually gets hers every other day, unless she's particularly sweaty/dirty one day. On non-bath nights, we wipe her down with a soapy wash cloth and "rinse" with another wet wash cloth.

Do your LOs use the bath or shower?  DD is 15 mos, I don't think she's ready for the shower yet. I'm thinking it has to be after she's able to stand better. Well, she can stand, and she has started walking, but her balance is not always there.

We still use baby wash for Tyler's hair because it's tearless, but we switched to Dove liquid soap because of his eczema. We put it right on the washcloth too. He used to take showers with me but we stopped when he got mobile. I wish we hadn't, because now he's afraid of it!

We bathe him 2-3 times each week or more often if he needs it. Sometimes I'll do a wipe down instead like you do, though.

We bathe every night here, really because she just loves it and would be sad if we didn't.  Don't think we're near a shower yet, have tried it a few times and she's really afraid of it.  I think my sister started with showers with hers around 2.5 or so, but I think that really depends on you and your LO.

I just thought of something. I wonder if introducing the shower would be easier with one of those hand held shower things attached to a 5 ft hose, rather than the regular stationary shower head attached up high on the wall.

Would you believe my LO, at 15 mos, is still using her baby/toddler bathtub that sits in the sink? She's a little thing, not even 19 lbs yet. I'm not yet sure what we'll do when she outgrows her baby/toddler bathtub.

i have friends who use the shower on their LOs from a few weeks old, taking the baby in with them. I've not tried the shower with rosie just yet, and probably won't until she's older, but obviously you can do it really early on!
