Title: Sasha not well.Need advice
Post by: andibig on July 21, 2006, 13:01:32 pm
ok
worked out why DD has not been eating great past couple of days (besides the heat 8)!)
this morning she had the most horrendous diarrhoea (sorry :P).
obviously i've been making sure shes been taking plenty of fluids and rest. she seems to want little and often in regards to food (i haven't pushed her to eat).so far shes had toast, cheerios, tomato soup (toddlers own) and some rice cakes.
has anyone any other suggestions

Poor Sasha-Chicken soup?...
Sounds like a stomach bug..lots of fluids is the main thing. Toast and what you are doing sound the best.
HUGS to little Sasha :)

For diarrhoea there's the BRAT diet

B - bananas
R - rice
A - apples (stewed)
T - toast (it's supposed to be tea, but los can't have it!)

Oh and the chicken soup is good if you add rice - something about the mixture of the protein and starch helps the body absorb water better. Carrot soup is also supposed to be soothing for the gut, and the beta-carotene helps too.

Also - don't use baby-wipes if you can help it - the skin on her botty might get sore with all this ick coming out, and the wipes may make it worse - just use damp cotton wool until she's better.

HTH,  :-* to poorly lo

How about yogurt or something to help her tummy??  There is something in yogurt (acidopholus sp???) that is supposed to help upset tummys.

Also, I agree with Charlie's Mummy.  No wipes.  Sometimes I fill up our sink halfway with warm water and then just soak DS's bum in it to clean it off.
(Don't forget to clean the sink with bleach or some strong cleaner... ;) ;))

FEEL BETTER LITTLE SASHA!!!

last time she had a tummy upset i remember not using baby wipes as her bottom was so sore :(.
Charlies mummy-was thinking about giving her some rice tonight!!! and she loves bananas ;D
TDR's mom-gave her some yoghurt as well today as i thought that would be easier on her stomach.
hopefully she'll feel better soon-fortunately shes sleeping well ;D-

Just be happy that she is eating!!! :) :) :)

How is her bum (sorry to get so personal).   One time, the Dr suggested I let DS go without diapers to let things dry out down there.  Pretty risky...but I understand the point.

Sasha has got gastroenteritis (sp?).which explains why shes been sleeping so bloody badly this week.
ok the thing is i'm getting different advice in regards to treating it.
Our triage nurse (couldn't get a drs appt) said not to give any solids-not even milk-for 24 hours.
Rung NHS direct and the nurse said that fasting her doesn't make any difference but to feed her starchy foods such as bread, potatoes etc and carry on giving her the milk. and also make sure she has plenty of fluids..
The thing is Sasha still really wants to eat!!!
What should i do???

I am not a Dr but know that when lo's get stomach bugs you are to avoid any dairy?  Not sure about the solids though.  If Tyler still wanted to eat, I think I would let him.  Just make sure Sasha gets lots of fluid (other than milk).  Water and maybe Soy Milk if she can tolerate it.

Just my opinion

i've just been giving her toast etc. as i feel she knows her appetite better than me and she makes it VERY clear when she doesn't want food. i might try the soy milk though. i have to ask a stupid question what is the difference between soy milk and cows milk???

Soy milk is made from soybeans so it is not from a cow.  It is really good for you but does not have much calcium in it.
