Title: DS's current favorite breakfast
Post by: jumblebox on September 27, 2006, 13:14:50 pm
Just thought I'd post the "recipe" for our 6 mo DS's favorite breakfast. He's actually tried to stick his face in the bowl, to get it down his throat faster! :o It isn't really a recipe, but I know it helps to see what other moms are feeding their LOs, especially when you're in a food rut. And this is just a less chunky version of something I eat!

Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal:
2-3 Tbs organic apple sauce
2-3 Tbs organic infant oatmeal
sprinkle of cinnamon
pinch of ground flax seeds (for healthy fats)
thin with preferred milk or apple juice
- serve warm -

All measurements are very approximate - I pretty much just dump it together until it looks good.

It does sound yummy!  How do you grind the flax seeds, or did you buy them that way?

Andrea,
I buy the flax seeds ground, and keep them in the freezer. (Flax seeds & flax oil spoil easily.) My mom keeps whole flax seeds in the freezer, and uses a coffee grinder (or blender) to grind for each use. Supposedly more of the "good stuff" is available that way. I figure the way I do it is better than nothing.  ;)

Lisa-

So glad you mentioned that they spoil easily.  I have had some in the pantry for awhile.  I will toss them.  Will have to get a fresh batch and freeze them.  Thanks! ;D

I also grind in a coffe grinder.  It works great.  Just pulse a piece of fresh (soft) bread to clean out teh coffee and another to clean out the flax when you're done.

weatherlyn: really, applesauce is just apple puree... not even runnier. Baby applesauce is usually a little smoother than regular, and some regular applesauce has some added sugar.
