Title: Diaper Rash sign of Dairy Allergy?
Post by: Peek-a-boo on November 03, 2006, 19:33:23 pm
We gave my LO (nearly 10 months) yogurt for a few days, he immediately got a diaper rash (has never really had one before) and started having lots of loose bowel movements.

We took him off yogurt for a few weeks, tried again, this time no loose bowel movements, but he got the diaper rash again.

Should we interpret this as a milk allergy?  Should we try other dairy products or avoid them altogether?

He's been EBF (well, we do solids, but never any formula) and I don't drink milk, but don't avoid dairy in other forms.

Thanks for any ideas.

Bethany

Ooh, you've got me thinking, sorry haven't got an answer for you but I shared a pot of rice pudding with DD yesterday and this morning she had nappy rash, and some of the rash is very sore, this is most unusual as she doesn't normally suffer, I put it down to the poop in her nappy maybe having been there most of the night as it didn't look fresh but now I'm wondering if it was the dairy.  Although she has had rice pudding before and yogurt and custard but just never quite so much in one go.
I will be interested to see what anyone else thinks.

dd had dreadful nappy rash for 10 weeks when she was younger- no creams would shift it. Turns out it was fungal- it's a form of thrush they can get from doing strong poos combined with sensitive skin! If your lo's rash has broken, maybe weeping skin and/ or lots of tiny red dots then it's fungal and you need someone to prescribe some anti- fungal cream. We used this for 2 weeks, it cleared up a treat and we've never had a repeat!

Calum gets bad nappy rash only when he is teething, fortunately at no other time.
