Title: Screaming murder at bedtime!!! This is new...
Post by: Shdef on December 29, 2006, 08:45:38 am
My angel/textbook baby who used to chatter himself to sleep and chatter waking up is now really upset at bedtime, naps and nighttime.
I don't know what is wrong with him but it has started when he started to sit up on his own (11 months) and crawl on his own (on his first birthday).
When he was very wee I did S/P but if I do that now he uses it as a prop. Goes to sleep rigght away but expects me to pat him every time he wakes up. He is constantly tired and always screams as soon as he wakes up.

The routine:

6.30 am wake up with a loud scream
sippy juice
Activity

8.00 am breakfast
Activity

11.30 lunch
12-2 nap (usually only naps 1.5 hours, rarely more)
Activity

3 pm snack
Activity

6 pm dinner
6.30 bath
6.45 bed
asleep by 7 or 7.30 due to screaming bloody murder

One other thing... there is no tears when he screams, and it is not his sad or hurt scream, it is the same sound he makes when he isn't allowed something (like touching the dvd etc) so I wonder if this is more like a tantrum?

Any ideas?

The only thing that I can think of is that if he naps for 1.5 hours from 12pm then he will be awake from 1.30 until 7.30pm, that is  6 hours.  Perhaps you could try a later nap or earlier bedtime, just half an hour to take it closer to 5 hour wake time until bed.  Maybe he is overtired going to bed and therefore resisting it.
