Some of you might remember when I posted about William breaking into hives when he got mashed potato on himself.. well today we had a repeat of that.. but this time from an omlette!!
Plain old beaten egg fried in a tiny bit of butter as an omlette and cut into pieces for him to eat for lunch.. he ate them with his fingers and everywhere it touched.. on his hands and on his face.. he broke out in hives.. poor kid was really itching!
Its a good job that we have antihisthamine in the house after the last time..!!
So I guess that now Woo has contact allergies from potato (raw and cooked), and now egg (cooked)

Poor thing
Has he never had egg to eat before this then Helen??
-
Aaawww poor Woo
-
Awel.. for ages Woo wouldn't eat egg.. refused boiled egg, scrambled egg etc - I think it was a texture thing.. but recently really enjoyed an omlette. It must have sensitised him to getting the egg on him as this time the allergy rash broke out.. it happened the same way with the mash - the first time he was ok.. the second time he had problems.

Poor Woo, I remember the photos from the potato incident. How does this contact allergy wrok, Helen? Is it just when he touches something he has problems, has he had egg and potato as trace ingredients in food?
-
Poor Woo.
That sounds itchy. And I bet you weren't too thrilled either ::)

Woo seems to have problems with things with potato and now egg in it if he gets it all over himself - i.e. just if it touches his skin. He has no problems with eating egg or potato at all. I am exactly the same with potato.. but not egg.
-
That's very weird, isn't it?
Another silly question, how do you prepare the potatoes if you have this problem, can you peel them etc. or would Rob have to do it?
-
Its not a silly question lovey!
If I have to peel/prepare potatoes I do it with gloves on or get Rob to do them.. or I dont peel them at all.. or suffer from stinging and itchy skin, sneezes and itchy eyes!!!
lol.. you always knew I was weird eh!

oh my gosh I'm so enlightened...seriously....I didn't know about FOOD contact allergies...My DS has broken out in hives after eating a meal he'd eaten a dozen times before....we panicked raced him to emerg. and they said, oh it's just an allergy...but never mentioned it could be from only contact!!!!! :o
We've never figured out what it was....but every once in awhile he'll break out in hives around his mouth and his hands and forearms....!!!!!
And come to think of it....when we noticed it on his face, we took his shirt off to eat dinner....(I thought it was a dry cold rash on his face at first)....I'm going to attach a pic...can you tell me if it looks like what Woo has?
Sorry I'm seriously feeling a little stunned here!!!!! Not trying to hijack your post! :-[
Thanks ~Marie

Riley had a contact food allergy experience with mayo....fine to eat it but if it got onto her chin or cheeks she would break out in a rash. Interestingly we decided to try a different brand of mayo and there's no more rash!
Unfortunately I doubt there is such a thing as a different brand egg or potato!

Poor Woo! Marisa is the same if egg or too much butter, mayo, etc gets on her skin - she gets a little rashy around her mouth. But it doesn't seem itchy or bothersome and goes right away.
-
Poor Woo. That must have been so scary!! ((HUGS))
Food allergies confuse me soooo much. One time they will be fine...the other time they will break out in hives! :-\ :-\
-
Poor Woo! hope he is ok now
Sophie has a similar reaction from Marmite when she smears it all around her face ::)
-
Oh poor Woo, not again. The poor little mite.
Give him big squishy {{HUGS}} from me and Shay. Shay gives him a gentle pat too :-*
Hope you are ok this time too my lovely.

poor woo.... we know how he feels :( me and tia both with oranges cant touch em or eat em hives break out!!! no oranges in this house lol

Interesting - I never knew about contact allergies. I have a child in my class who is dairy allergic, but has not eaten egg because so far he's come out in hives etc when in contact with egg and the parents are assuming that if he gets such a severe reaction to contact then it will be the same with eating it.

Marie - it looks very similar! Maybe you could watch to see what he has been touching prior to the rash. I get the rash on my arms and neck if I cuddle up to the dog for too long.. or she licks me.. and also if I get potato on me as described before.
I'm going to reattach the potato indicent photo for you so you can see what happened to Woo. Luckily I saw this one happening so was able to minimise the places the egg touched..
All you need to do is give some antihisthamine.. I use piriton syrup for children so I know its safe for him and it decreases the rash in about 20 mins.

Not necessarily Alex.. but if he's prone to allergies to things they might want to be careful giving him any....

Red has a contact allergy with Tomatoes - just as you describe with the red hives all over his face and neck. Bizarrely he is ok with cooked tomato (say in pasta sauce/ pizza) but it is the raw ones that bother him!!
Hope Woo is better soon x

:'( :'( poor Willy Woo (((((((hugs))))))))

Oh Helen,
I just saw this....Poor Woo :'(

Jennifer reacts like that as well to certain foods.
A few days ago she had apple laces ::) ::) ::) she knew she wasn't allowed them and got contact allergy on the sides of her mouth, it actually swelled up. And was itchy.
Does his eczema flare up as well when he eats things he is allergic to?
Hugs and cuddles for you and the wee itchy man :(
