11.5 month old transitioning to 1 nap
« on: August 31, 2007, 03:10:22 am »
hi! we started transitioning my dd to 1 nap about a week ago..she'll be going into daycare in a month. we went cold turkey to 1 nap the 1st day (she used to have two 1h naps at around 10-10:30 then again at 2:30-3:00) and she managed ok but only napped for an hour. she had one good day since then at 2.5h but most of them are only 1h long. we put her down for bed an hour earlier which seems to help because she gets 12-13h straight at night! two questions:

1) how long does it usually take before this nap will get to at least 2h consistently (and should i keep putting her to bed early until then)?

2) right now i put her down around 12:00 pm (she is up in the am 7-7:30 am) -when should i start pushing it back (in 15 min increments, of course!) to the eventual goal of 1:00 pm? right now with the early bedtime she's out by 6:30 pm

thanks in advance for your thoughts! this site has always proven to be most helpful and is greatly appreciated!! :)

I would try a slightly early nap she may be OT by 12pm and why she is waking early from the nap.
My DD went to 1 nap at 11.5months and woke the same time as your DD and would go down no later than 11.45am. She is still waking the same time now and goes down no later than 12.30pm at 2yrs old. I don't think she will ever go to 1pm nap.

Hi,
My DD has been transitioning to one nap for a while now, she's nearly 1 now.For nearly 2 months we have been doing 20 mins at 10:30,then she has about 1 3/4 to 2 hrs from about 12:45.this has been working really well,I usually have to wake her from both naps. The 20 min catnap in the morning gets her through lunch and we have time for errands or playtime without her getting overtired. She has about 11 1/2 hrs nightsleep so I will try to keep her on this routine for a while. We did try to go cold turkey by going straight to one nap,but after a couple of weeks it resulted in short naps and 5:30am wakings,so had to do some tweaking.Haven't looked back since.Hope this help a bit.
