4 months for both my lo's, my dd had hideous reflux and ds was because the h.v. said to  ???

I am all in favour of six months to wean, reading the literature makes complete sense to me, and Tracey also advocated the six month mark.  Obviously some reasons why some are earlier like in my case.

Well, my dd#1 was 13 weeks prem, so we were advised to introduce solid foods at 4 months (1 month adjusted :o) - with hindsight, I wish I hadn't begun so early, altho I don't think it's done her any harm, no allergies to date, and she regulates her intake well (no overfeeding) - but she was on vitamin/mineral supplements, on the 90th centile and gaining steadily just bf, I just don't think it was necessary! I'm a 6 month advocate I'm afraid, especially with self-feeding/BLW becoming popular again :), but there have been some posters on here who have introduced solid foods at 3 months!

shes ok despite it, skinny little thingshe is

but i still feel terrible for it

HI
I weaned my first at 4 months as I was returning to work at 5 months - and I wanted to ensure it was me that gave her the first tastes and not her childcarer!  6 MONTH GUIDELINES had only just come in and wasn't strongly reinforced so I felt it was ok.  TBH it hasn't done her any harm but with hindsight (and 2 other kiddies) she wasn't ready. Number 2 and 3 were started at 6 months and it was so much easier!  Number 3 is just over 6 months and I am BLW - it feels absolutely right and I wish I had known about it first 2 times - she is doing amazingly well and eats lumps and chews as well as my others did at 9-12 months.

Hi there

I know they say that the way to know they are ready for weaning is when they start watching you eat but sometimes it seems my LO does that already...how do you know theyre ready?

Check out this post from the FAQ section on 'readiness':

https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=36922.0

you might also like to consider baby-led weaning (BLW) which is a self-feeding approach (see link below) which allows babies to actively demonstrate when they are ready to begin to eat solid foods on the basis that they can't do it until they have the necessary gross and fine motor skills and oral skills. On this basis there isn't the risk of feeding a baby earlier than necessary, or overfeeding him 'coz it's all his decision what to eat and when!
