How long for the Mantra cry?
« on: September 10, 2007, 03:37:41 am »
My LO is 4.5mths old and I have her on a 4hr EASY, well it's more like 3.5hr EASY.  I recently started the PU/PD method but am not sure what to do during the Mantra cry.  Should I stay in there and keep doing pat/shh, or just stay back and let her calm herself down. I know I'm not supposed to pick her up. But sometimes it seems as though she could do the Mantra cry for what seems like forever. It just seems like she is CIO, if I don't do something about it, and I don't want her to feel abandoned. ???

Hi there, your LO is darling.

The mantra cry is monotone so it sounds different from the "I need you" cry. Leave her be as it's her way of settling herself. You'll know if you've intervened at the wrong time when she gets worse not better if it's the mantra.

Good luck !

thanks so much, should I wait in her room with her till she calms, or don't let her see me?

That depends on the type of baby she is. Does she normally see you in the room when she's settling ? Should be OK to leave I'd think.

yeah, it seems like she gets more worked up when she can see me. I have a baby monitor, and I'll just wait and see if her cry escalates, then I will enter the room. Thanks for all the help.
