What was your routine after making it to 1 nap?
« on: September 23, 2007, 16:40:56 pm »
Well, after a long haul we have made it to 1 nap with our 19mo DS, but I am having some trouble getting DS to settle into a new routine.

We were doing the nap at about 4.5h after waking and then bed about 4-4.5h after the nap.

But last night he took almost 1.5h to fall asleep at bedtime (happily playing though so that's ok).

Today he woke at 7:20,
Lunch at 11:00 (time to poop in between  ::))
In bed at 12:00 and he is still up there talking/playing/lots of complaining and it is 12:45 now.  He is going to get OT soon...probably already is.  His complaining is getting really close to me needing to do wi/wo and all that does is work him up  :-\

So, could you share routines just after you made the transition?  Thanks.

Updated...I think he is asleep now at 12:53 but we'll see if it is an OT nap now.

We have just made the transition (touch wood).  Our routine looks like this

6ish AM wake
11am nap [5h A] usually 1-1.5h nap
I do wi/wo to extend naps, still not at the point were she does it on her own, but getting better
6pm sleep (start bedtime routine 5.30 so asleep by 6)[5.5h A after nap]
If dd did a hour nap I usually try and have her asleep by 5.45

We've been at this a little longer but see if this schedule helps:

btwn 6-7 wake up
nap 1-3 (or 4)
begin bedtime routine btwn 7-7:30...
asleep 8

total....12-14 hours sleep

Good luck!

Colin went to one nap around 14 mo, and his routine was then...

7:00am wake
11:30/maybe 12 nap
1:30/2 wake
7:00pm bedtime

Now we are more like...

7:00am wake
12:30/1:00pm nap
2:002:30 wake
8:00pm bedtime

We just moved the A time up every couple days by 15 min. so very similar to pp. Wake time extending to 5.5-6 hrs now. We are needing less daytime sleep now  I move bedtime later Or shorter naps. I remember talking with you on the 2 to 1 thread a few months back. HTH.

with a wake time after 7am like that I would think the nap would be 12:30 or so. i don't think he was OT, but probably still looking to play and burn off lunch. would start 12:30 and then if he takes 15-20 min to fall asleep no harm done.  if takes any longer could try 12:45. JMO.

Charlie moved to 1 nap between 14 and 15 months. Our routine is now like this:

Wake btw. 5.30 and 6.30 (he's an early waker ::) - I get him up just after 6.30 and he has a cup of milk
Breakfast btw. 8.15 and 8.30
Snack around 10.15
Nap 11.15/11.30-1.15/1.30 (always a good 2 hours)
Lunch btw. 1.30 and 2
Snack around 3.30
Dinner around 5
Bath, bottle, bed routine starts at around 6
He's generally in bed between 6.30 and 6.45, and will normally be fast asleep by 7

This means he gets between 10.5 and 11.5 hours of sleep at night, and 2-2.5 hours in the daytime. He's now coming up 17 months old. I tried pushing the nap a bit later but it backfired big time with major OT.

Thanks for the routines.  I'll have to keep working with him.  He doesn't seem to be able to nap longer than 1.5h (with the odd exception) and then ends up with an early bedtime and a long night.

We're just about getting settled into one nap with Ewan (although some days he still needs a cat nap in the afternoon if his nap is short ::)). We've also just moved to two bottle rather than one. At the moment his routine looks like this most days:

7.30am wake up and breakfast (yoghurt or cereal with milk, then toast (he's a toast fiend!)
8.30am Bottle (7oz)
10.30am Snack
12.00pm Nap (2-2.5 hours) - I'm trying to push this a little later at the moment
2.00/2.30 lunch (when I push his nap later I'll do lunch before nap)
4.00pm Snack
5.30pm Dinner
6.45pm Bottle then bed

love
Marie
