I am going crazy with no naps
« on: September 21, 2007, 18:13:57 pm »
My 28 month old is refusing her naps the last week and a half. In my opinion this is way too early to give up a nap. what is going on? we put her in earlier and everything and she goes CRAZY in there. jumping playing kicking the walls (and it wakes our 6 month old) She throws her blankets out of the crib and everything. sHE is getting ehr molars but would that do it?

and when she is awake she is brutal. all of the sudden throwing temper tantrums and wining all of the time. this is not her at all. If she does fall asleep she only sleeps for 45 min to one hour. and is exhausted at 5pm.

Today she won't sleep at all and she is going to be a nightmare today , I have tried movingup her bedtime and that does not help. and we even try to chill her out before naps and that does nothing too.

what do I do?????????????????

Allyson, could you post her routine.  what time does she wake and what time do you put her for a nap.  what time is bedtime.

Oh Allyson... I've just been there. I know exactly what you are going through. That link posted to you was my thread. Have a read through it.... i was a MESS!!! (worse she was a mess!)

I just want to say at this stage if she's getting overtired you do what you HAVE to to get a nap in. At the end of that thread (well yesterday) my dd went to sleep on her own in her own cot (11days later) so there is a light at the end of the tunnel ;D. Might not mean anything but it was a miracle in my opinion.

They are so strong willed at this age & convince themselves they no longer need sleep but their behaviour/mood & the rest of it tells you otherwise.

It could be just a matter of tweaking her routine though so if you could let us know what Mari asked & we'll help you out :)

well today she has a low grade fever. so I think it is her molars. One is 3/4 cut and the other is about to cut. I gave her motrin today and she passed out. she only slept for one hour, but I'll take it! I think she has a virus also because her nose is runny a bit. I am going to put her to bed EARLY tonight to make up for lost sleep. Hopefully she will be better soon.... I'll keep in touch

I did read that post and it made me feel better . thanks

If she has a rough night tonight I will have her ears checked tomorrow. I don;t think it is that . she has tubes and we are pro's at reading her ear infection cues and she is not touching them at all. wish me luck... uuuugggg

Oh what is going on with her..... I post again because we are still having major problems. Thankfully her mood is much better and she did have a cold that is gone now. but she is still cuting her molars. (brutal)

She took a 1 hour nap yesterday from 12-1pm I put ehr down early because she was showing tired signs. she only slept for one hour.  ::) Then at 6:30pm she was tired so I moved bedtime earlier and I rocked her and chilled her out for a while!! she stayed awake until 8 Pm!!!!!! and she woke at 2,3,5 am crying so I went in at 5am and gave her tylenol and she NEVER WENT BACK TO SLEEP!!! up for the day , 9 hours thats it!!!

She keeps putting her fingers in her mouth and won't eat much. this has been going on for 2 weeks now, and I know she is soooo ovetired, but there is nothing I can do. I have tried everything. She has one molar 1/2 way cut and the other is cutting now. I saw them. No ear infection I had that checked. I am so angry and tired I also have a 6 month old so this is very hard to keep up with what do I do??? HELP :'(

Sounds like teething :(. Unfortunately not much you can do until teething ends... just provide lots of comfort & try meds for relief & ride it out :-\. She will more that likely go back to her old routine once teething is over with.

All you can do is still offer an earlier nap (if she wakes early) & earlier bedtime if she only had a short nap.

Sorry not much help there... we have not got any 2nd yr molars yet so I am yet to go through another hurdle ::).

Hang in there.... & remember "THIS TOO SHALL PASS" (that's my motto when things get hectic)!
