13.5 MO - early waking
« on: September 26, 2007, 23:43:27 pm »
Hi there,

My 13.5 mo DD has been following this routine for a few days now.  She's going through the 2-1 switch - which was insane - and I think we've finally cracked it.  She's pretty much happy all day.... apart from the early wakings...

6.30 - 6.45am - Wake up
11am - Short nap, maybe 20 mins
12 noon - Lunch
1.30pm - Nap for 1.5 - 1.75 hours.  Till about 3.15pm
5.30pm - Dinner
7.30pm - Bedtime

However, her wake up is starting to get earlier and earlier.  This morning she woke up at 5.50am.

I have tried to put her to bed earlier (e.g 7pm), because I notice that a lot of people suggest it on the forum, but it's had no effect.  She's  irritated on having to go to bed so early and ends up walking around her cot for ages.  Then she still gets up early.  And she doesn't get up happy either, she's a bit groggy and cranky. Is there something wrong with her routine ?  What should I do ?

It could be that she is ready for 1 nap. You could try offering her the 1 nap around 11am for 2hrs & put to bed around 6pm. Then slowly shift that nap until its close to 11.30-12pm.

Hi Isabella&Jasmine's mum,

I could give that a go, but I'm worried that she'll then get up even earlier !  Is that a possibility or does it not work that way ?  Thanks !

Its always a possibility... just something you'll need to give a go for about a week to see if its making a positive change to her wake up hour. Also there could be other reasons she is waking earlier... could she be teething... thats always something that messes with their sleep, naps, etc..

I think since she is capable of lasting from 6 till 11, you could give 1 nap a go.

My 1st instict would be an earlier bedtime & since you have already tried it & it didn't work, it could be that she is ready for 1 nap :-\
