Tips on not lifting toddler while recovering from c-section?
« on: September 29, 2007, 02:52:18 am »
I'm having a scheduled c-section with my second baby on October 9.  At my 37 week appointment, my doctor mentioned that I shouldn't lift more than ten pounds for the first six weeks of my recovery or I risk opening my incision, hernias, or at the very least prolonging my recovery by months.  I had a quick recovery after my daughter's birth, but I could sleep when she slept and only had her to tend to.

This time, I have a 27 month old DD who is still in a crib (big girl bed is on order, but I don't want to make any changes so close to baby's arrival).  For the first week and at night, there will be no problem getting her in and out of crib, booster seat, or car seat, since DH will be home with us.  However, after that first week, we have no-one to help us during the day and my husband will have to be back at work.  How am I going to get her in and out of her crib (or booster seat or car seat)?  She weighs a little over thirty pounds but can't climb up into her car seat, just up into the car and then beside the car seat.  I guess we can work on that and I'll just cover the upholstery so her shoes don't muddy it (it rains always here).  She can climb up onto a chair by herself to eat, so maybe we'll skip the booster seat for the meals where it's just us at home.

Current thoughts for the crib issue include buying a step stool and teaching her to climb in and out of her crib (yikes!) whilst supervised and then removing the stool from the room or using the crib mattress on the floor for nap times, or having her sleep on our bed for naps.  She is a routine stickler, and honestly if I change things once for sleeping, it's the new 'rule' in her mind (made the mistake of laying down with her while camping once to get her to sleep and spent two weeks wondering why she was throwing tantrums when I left her room at bedtime once we were home).

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.  I'm going to post this message on another board or two because the more input I get, the better.

Thanks in advance!
