Have I ruined my good efforts?
« on: September 30, 2007, 08:25:13 am »
Well, after weeks of night wakings and no naps I decided to try doing the nap in the car just so I could guarantee one until we got into the habit again and using gradual withdrawal at night for bedtimes and night wakings. Was going really well and I have progressed from sitting by the bed to the middle of the floor and the last few nights have only had one waking. Last night I thought we were going right through UNTIL....Next doors baby started screaming at 5.45am and woke ds up! I sat on the floor for 20 mins and he went back to sleep but it started again at 6.15 and I was so tired i got in with him til 7.30. When we woke I said to him that Mummy would have to go back in her own bed tonight and he would sleep alone to which he is now replying NO, mummy lie down! Have I just ruined all my hard work or will one mistake be easily rectified if I go back to the routine tonight?

Also, today is our first nap time at home instead of the car so wish me luck!

Thanks
Sherilee

Good luck with the nap!

I don't think you've ruined anything. I would just go about the routine as usual & if he asks you to lay down with him, I would just get a chair & sit in the room rather than sleep with him.

Hello there!

Maybe some white noise will help to muffle any sounds that could potentially wake him?  We use a fan on high facing the wall, works a treat!  I agree with Layla, I don't think you've ruined anything at all - pick up where you left and dig in again.

Good Luck and hang in there, you're doing a great job.  Big Hugs!

Thanks for the replies. The nap went horribly wrong. I took him up at 12.50 and every time he got up I put him back in bed. He didnt stop getting up untill 2.20 and started getting sleepy and then guess what.....he pooed! So it all went out the window and we ended up downstairs again. By 7pm tonight he was crying with tiredness and fell asleep within 5 mins of going to bed at 7.25. I guess Im gonna be up in the early hours again in the morning!
