What is going on now?
« on: October 03, 2007, 10:07:23 am »
Hi everyone, i'm back!

My lo is now 9mths, still all over the place.  As per my previous posts I thought the prob may have been down to too long night sleep, however this is what has gone on the last 3 days, I would be grateful for any comments.

Sunday night sleep 13.5 hrs
A time 2hrs 50 mins slept for 1hr 20mins
A time 3hrs slept 1hr 20mins
bed 6pm

Monday night sleep 13hrs
A time 2hrs 40mins 1hr 20mins S
A 3hrs 1hr
bed 6.30pm

Tuesday night 11.15
woke for 30 mins went back to sleep for 45mins so total 12hrs
A 2.40 30 mins sleep!!!!
Crying when she woke and would not go back to sleep.

So now I am really confused! what should I continue with ? should I try to stick to 3 hrs A time regardless of night sleep and hopefully she will get used to napping after this time? and if she does wake ager 30 mins do pu/pd till she goes back, or go by her nt sleep and if less shorten her A time?
Please help!!!!!
Rachael

hmm, well it would seem that 13hrs at night is good for her and she is rested enough to take good naps.
on the night she had about 12hrs----perhaps her A time that morning needed to be closer to 2.25hrs or something. 30min naps are almost always OT.
If she does wake after 30min, try to extend it if you are up to it. If she does not go back to sleep, then next nap probably no longer then 2hrs or so later.

Thanks for your response, so do you think I should adjust her A time depending on her night sleep or try to be consistent and stick to an A time?(sorry to be dense, but I really want this to work now)
Also she has started waking in the night and wont go back to sleep for about 1.30, she has never done this before regardless to how much sleep she has had or not had in the day.
Cheers Rachael

is your dd spirited? I think that when they are spirited, they can get OT easily.

if my son has had a rough night, I so adjust his nap time a bit, and he usually has less A time. It is still balancing act and he is 20months old!
I noticed that as my son has gotten older, his NW are much LONGER now (although that started at about 17month)

when they are OT, you do have to be sensitive to tired etc and not push past those points. a bit frustrating but better then 30min naps. I wouldn't say throw the clock out the window, but just be prepared for a little less A time if she is more tired etc.

NW could be OT,

the other possibly, is she going through a growth spurt and needing more caloires and or solids?
perhaps there are developmental milestones playing a factor?

Hi....

My LO has just transitioned to 2 naps and I discovered something that may be helpful.  13-13.5hrs nightsleep is a lot to expect, how tired is she before bed? My LO can go 2hr20-2hr40 A time during the day, but before bed she can go 3hrs-3hrs20 to get a decent bedtime. I would say that you should push the A times a bit to see what happens. I let her watch her Baby Einstein DVD for 30 mins before her bedtime feed, and it really calms her. My LO is spirited, but it works somehow.

Also I calculate total sleep the other way, like daysleep affects night sleep, instead of the way you are doing it, for example:

My LO had...(Thurs)
2hr20 Atime= 2hr nap
2hr40 Atime= 1hr30 nap
3hr20 Atime= bedtime 620, wake up 7am

3hr30 daysleep + 12hr40 nightsleep= 16hr10 total sleep

HTH ;D

Hi Lyndsy,

My lo is always ready for bed between 5.30 and 6pm if she has had no naps in the day where if she has had a good day, and by this I mean around 2-2.5 hrs total nap time, then I can push her a little later however she is still ready around 3.5 hrs max before she gets really wired!!! yesterday she had a after 13hrs nt sleep a 40min am and 1hr pm was still ready for bed at 6.30 after 3hrs A time and slept until 7.30 this morning! with no NW.
I have been trying naps since day one, however hard I try she has never slept well in the day, and I used to put her down to bed muich later at night until I read another book which recommended putting her down earlier if she has had no day sleep which I have started doing and although she is getting alot of nt sleep it seems to work better for her as I do get slightly longer naps when she has had such a long rest she is extremely spirited also, does not want to miss out!
Oh well if I can get her well rested at night I can also spot her tired signs better so I am going to try and continue with the night sleep and maybe if she can stretch her day out a bit more we will get to a later bed time and eventually a shorter nt sleep and longer naps!!!! we can only hope.
Thanks for your comments, they are appreciated.
