finger food and what now at 8 months!
« on: September 26, 2007, 21:28:10 pm »
Hello all,

My 8 month old loves his solids now...took him 2 months to start liking the idea of chewing but he finally does.

Anyways I think it might be time to move him to the next stage, but am at a loss of what the next stage is? What should I give him and what are ok finger food and how do I introduce them?

I have started giving him mildly lumpy food and he likes that, and i shappy wolfing down a rice cracker..but do I give him that as a snack? or replace a meal?

am confused, so all guidance will be apprecaited!
Many thanks!

I would offer him a rice cake, or whatever finger food you choose (check out https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95978.0), at his current mealtime alongside his usual puree so that he associates the 'new' thing as a food, and has a chance to explore it and practice with it without the frustration of depending on it to relieve his hunger. Gradually you can offer less puree and more finger food until the point where he can feed himself with or without a spoon!

HTH?

Hi there!

You're doing a great job, it *IS* so confusing and overwhelming at times isn't it?

At this age, Owen was having anything soft, and broke down easily in his mouth like small pieces of avocado, banana, cooked pear, cooked apple ect.  I would do a test with the food, if I could squish it down with my fingers, I felt comfy giving it too him.  Cherrios seemed too hard for him, but Kix cereal was fantastic.

Good luck!
