Extending naps...success?
« on: October 03, 2007, 13:59:52 pm »
How often does resettling/nap extension work for you?  I try it about every nap and it only works MAYBE one out of four times.  I haven't yet tried w2s b/c I'm scared to!!

My DS is 11 wks today and is a CHRONIC 40 minute napper.  He seems tired, goes down fairly easy with patting, eyes drowsy, so pretty much on his own after soothing.  He wakes after 40 mins, most of the time wide awake and happy.  I've tried 1 hr A times, 1.5 hr, 2hrs, pretty much no difference.

Help!!

hi there,
I had to extend most naps from the age of about 5 weeks until about age 6months or so!
I had great success with pupd (as he got a little older) and there were times when he would wake, yawn for 15min or so and fall back to sleep without me even being in the room.
It will get better
I would think 1.5 hrs or so is good for A time.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if he would wake and stay for 15min and fall back asleep, but he wakes up grunting every time then crying.   :(

well I thinks its a matter of them sort of getting used to sleeping longer (as in they want to go back to sleep so the do) but also also keep in mind that many babies start sleeping better as they get older. babies organize night sleep first and then day sleep after the age of 6 month or so. developmentally---they are just not entering in to the next sleep cycle, quite foten they jolt themselves awake. do you swaddle? this can help.
also you can try w2sleep---look in the FAQ section for the 2 different ways of doing this.
