Wake to sleep ... when?
« on: October 03, 2007, 00:35:11 am »
I hope this is the right board for this question ...

If you have had success using wake to sleep, can you explain WHEN you do it? The book says about 10 minutes before they normally wake, but I'm wondering if there is some criteria other than time. Should the LO still be in deep sleep with regular breathing, or starting the transition to REM sleep (irregular breathing, etc.)?

Thanks.

When I've tried it, I've usually gone in between 30-35m from when DS went to sleep.

That said, I've only tried it about 4 times and have only had success once.  I would imagine it's a bit of a case of trial and error!

Sometimes it can help to watch a few naps to see exactly when she is waking up and then go in 5 or 10 minutes before that.  It is trial and error; I've done it for naps and it sometimes helps, sometimes not.  For me it's been much better for night wakings - Enfys went through a stage where she woke at 2.38 (!) every night for like 4 nights in a row.  I went to her about 1.45 for three nights and it worked.  I think it's worth a shot with the naps for sure.
