one year old nap questions
« on: October 28, 2007, 02:04:23 am »
Hello!
My triplets just turned one (wow)!

They are still doing 2 naps a day pretty well.  Their morning awake time is getting longer though.  They are up between 7 & 7:30am.  They used to go down for the am nap at 9:30 but now it's 10, sometimes 10:15.  How late can a morning nap be and still be considered a morning nap?

Their pm nap is usually around 3 and ideally goes till 4 or 4:30.  Do you think that 4:30 is the latest that this nap should go into the evening so that we can maintain a 7pm bedtime?

Do you think I should limit the am nap to one hour so that the afternoon nap can be the longer nap?

I know eventually they will be on one nap a day.  What time does the one nap start, just so I know what we should be working towards?

Thanks for any help!
Laney

Generally for a 1yo the morning A time is about 3-3.5hrs... some do more. In the afternoon.. b/n naps its about 3.5hrs (some do more & some less) & before bedtime about 3.5-4hrs (again some do more). So if nights are good & they are sleeping through then I think you should leave things as they are

A morning nap can be as late as 12pm (just all depends on the wake up time ;)).. so for a baby that starts their day around 7-7.30am the morning nap can be around from 10-11am. An afternoon nap can be as late as 4-4.30pm for a 7.30/8pm bedtime. If you want to maintain bedtime of 7pm then I would probably not let them sleep past 4pm.

So if you see that the afternoon nap is being pushed too far into the afternoon, bedtime is being pushed too far as well or that they are starting to wake earlier in the day then you could try shortening the morning nap to 1hr, offer the afternoon nap earlier & then bedtime should go back to 7pm

In general when they are down to 1 nap... you schedule will be 7-7.30am wake; 12-12.30pm - afternoon nap (1.5-2hrs long); 7/7.30pm - bedtime
