Cluster/Dream Feed NOT WORKING
« on: October 30, 2007, 04:48:40 am »
SO we tried the cluster/dream feed thing tonight. Needless to say it's midnight and he's still awake!

We did the cluster feeds at 6:30 and 8:30 and then the DF at 11.  He cried/screamed after the 6:30 feeding until about 7:45. Then slept until we woke him for the 8:30 feeding. He cried/fussed until about 10:30. The dream feed ended up waking him up and he's still awake now.

This is insane. I am upset and at a loss of what to do. My husband isn't happy and has to go to work tomorrow. We have no idea when to feed him next or to even try this again. If we'd stayed on our usual schedule, he would've eaten at 8:30, around 12:30 and then early morning. Would've been much nicer!

What's frustrating is the book doesn't give me enough info on how to cluster/df.  I feel like I'm shooting in the dark at a target I can't see.

Hi- Sorry you're having a rough time right now.

How old is your ds?  What was your overall routine for the day w/ wake time and naps?

We just dropped the dreamfeed as we found she was having to much formula in the night and it was unsettling her. I never did cluster feeds either for the same reason.
We do:

6.30am, 9.30am, 12.30pm, 3.30pm, 6.30pm, night feed btw 12-2am

For my kids, the staying awake at night is almost always overtired.  If it were me, I wouldn't wake him to eat.  Start his cluster feeds earlier, maybe 5 and 7 and then dreamfeed him before you would expect him to be really hungry so that he's in a deeper sleep when you do it and doesn't wake up.  Do you have a good bedtime routine with him yet?  If not, this is a good thing to get started too.  Finally, don't change his diaper or burp him or anything at his DF if you're having trouble with him waking.
