Climbing out of the crib *update
« on: October 26, 2007, 14:04:47 pm »
Hi Ladies, I can't figure out where this goes.. :P But, B 23 months is climbing out of the crib at all hours of the night and won't fall asleep in the crib either. I used to just put him in and he could cry for 20 seconds and then fall asleep, now he gets out and doesn't know how to put himself to sleep outside of the crib. Last night he ran into my room at 3:00 am and didn't fall back asleep unitl 6:30! I'm exhausted.

I "searched" this topic and a lot of people recommend the tent (netting), but I have a sleigh crib adn all the reviews on amazon.com says that it doesn't work on a sleigh crib. I was thinking of a toddler bed, but I just know that he'll keep coming out. This is a disaster. Does anyone have any suggestions??

We've just encountered this problem too.  I think I'm just going to put a mattress on the floor, and one of those knob locks on the inside of DS's door so he can't come out, and of course, completely baby-proof (almost empty  ::)) his room.  Such fun.  We never had this problem with DD...boys will be boys, LOL!

We have just gone through this too.  But its a girl for us so none of those boy comments please  :D

I found DD straddling the top of the crib one day saying 'bike bike' so figured it was time for the big bed.  We have the mattress on the floor and not much in her room, but it's still tough.  But for safety sake I'm not putting her back in the crib.  She loves her big bed, but she doesn't sleep on it too well

I put the mattress on the floor last  night. It was even worse. How do you get them to go to sleep? Are we suppose to stay in there? The ped. recommended taking the locks off the door or getting that anti-grip thing for the handle, but I feel horrible doing that.

My DD never did this and I learned my lesson by trying to move her too soon. I was planning on keeping him in there until puberty but now my plan has been twarted. Oh, the  agony!!

My DDs door is alwyas shut when she sleeps.  A good routine (as in same words every time etc) helps.  I also go to her every single time she calls, so she has no real need to get out of bed.

She still does sometimes, I have found her asleep on the floor several times (I honestly didn't know she could do that, won't sleep anywhere but her room).

To teach her to sleep in her big bed we did wi/pd/wo - modified due to severe SA issues at the time.

persistance and consistency.  They need a chance to get used to it.

Okay, I bit the bullet and went and bought a toddler bed today. The car one. He liked it in Toyrus, so we'll see how tonight goes.  :-\

I bought the crib tent last night and after realizing that it had been pre-opened and returned, I felt completetly defeated.  :-\I went to the pediatrican b/c my DD is sick and asked what to do. They suggested locking the door and leaving my son to cry himself to sleep on the floor. She even suggested putting in some earplugs or going outside for a glass of wine on the patio.

Well, DH insisted on trying to put up the tent and it does fit my sleigh crib. I talked it up a lot to DS and told how awesome that he had a tent and we put him in there to jump up and down and play in the crib - all before bedtime.  When bedtime came, I let him fall asleep in his sister's bed and then I moved him over.

Well, ..... he slept through the night and didn't get up once to call for us!!  ;D ;D So, for right now, YEAH CRIB TENT!! Oh, btw, I put the toddler bed that I just bought and completely assembled  ::), in the attic. Hopefully I won't need it for another year.

So glad the crib tent worked for you.  I think I'm off to Babies R Us tomorrow to pick one up!

LOL, Stacy, you are putting thoughts into Rosey's head now!!

I really find this shocking and sad. I would LOVE to know who tells them this is acceptable advice for parents. I think I will ask tomorrow!!  >:(

All the straps and velcos are on the outside of the netting. They can't get to it! I love it!!  :)
