Could his DF be messing up his night sleep?
« on: October 29, 2007, 20:24:17 pm »
OK here i am again...lol.We finally got things worked out and now hes waking again. For the past 3 nights he has been waking 3 to 4 times a night.Just fussing a bit but then crying but he goes right back to sleep if i pat his back for a minute or two or give him his paci.He was sleeping all night from df at 11 until 730am.The reason i am wondering if its his DF is because the night before the waking started i didnt do a DF and he slept straight through from 8pm until 730am.
Here is his schedule...

E 7:45 to 8am wake and feed
A to 930am
S 930am (usually 1.5 hours on the dot...he automatically wakes like a timer...lol)

E 11am
A to 1230
S 1230pm...sleeps 2 hours

E 230pm
A  to
S  430 (his A time is longer here i know but he just wont settle for a nap sooner i have tried)...sleeps for 1 hour

E 530
A to 7pm then bathtime and cuddles with daddy and his bottle
S bedtime is anywhere from 730 to 745pm

DF at 11pm and usually sleeps until morning

This has been working for the last few weeks and now hes waking again.

I am at a loss again...lol

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks Christina

Christina - how old is he?

But yes it could well be the DF - some people find it messes up night time sleep. You could try dropping it for a few nights and see what happens...

If it makes you feel any better, I could never do a DF with Colin. He's always been a rather light sleeper so I suspect that had a lot to do with it. With a "DF" he would be awake all dang night. We clusterfed in the evenings instead and it worked well for us.

Lucas is 3.5 months old.
He went down for bed at 7:45.He drank 6oz at 530 and i managed another 6 at 715 before bed when he only usually drinks 4 so i am thinking he was good and full. His dad is away this week for work and wont be back until Friday...so his routine is still on track just a different face at bedtime so i hope that doesnt cause any problem.
Its just weird because the DF was working for a while but i am going to try to skip the DF tonight and see what happens.

Thanks and i will let you know if it works.

Great, see how you get on!  You may find you need to try it for several days before deciding whether or not it works - also at his age you would expect to have one night feed so you may find he starts waking up hungry at 3am - in which case he should go back to sleep quite easily once he's been fed.

the only other thing looking at your routine is that you might want to rule out overtiredness - his last A time is quite long after only a short nap - have you tried putting him into bed a bit earlier, eg 7pm?

Well...Lucas slept straight through until 4am and i fed him then and he went back to sleep again after drinking 5 oz and he slept until 7:45 this morning. It seemed to work but I will try the no DF again for a few more nights to see what happens.

I havent tried an earlier bedtime because this is his usually daddy time.Dh is always gone before Lucas wakes and not home until 6:30 or 7pm at night so i am a little ruluctant to change it because then he wont get to see daddy for like days.Dh works 6 sometimes 7 days a week so he has very little time home (he works on highways and with the power company) .I will change it if nothing else works though because it be whats best for Lucas but i want to try other things first.

What if i extended that last nap to 1.5 hours instead of 1 hour? Or would that be too much day sleep?

Hey, great stuff for last night  :) :)

If it works out with dropping the DF - then yes I agree, go for it!   It's so nice that Lucas' daddy wants to be involved (I wish Katie's would  :P)

Or yes you could try extending that nap to see what happens - but as you say I would go with dropping the DF first.

Fingers crossed!

Yes it is great his dad wants to be involved. The father of my 13 year old was a dad for about 6 minutes and then he realized "hey...this baby is taking away from my time,my money,my life"... you see the use of the word "my"...yeah so you can guess the rest.Anyhow everything is so different now and its great.

Will keep you posted on the next few nights without the df and see what takes place.

Fingers crossed here as well.
Thanks

Last night didnt go so well.He went to bed at 7:30,then he fussed at 9...i gave him his paci and he went back to sleep. Then he woke at 1230am...so this time i fed him.He was awake again at 430,530 and 730 and then we got up.No idea whats cramping his style this time.He is down for his morning nap now and i hear him already and its only been 45 minutes and he usually sleeps for 1.5 no problems.Guess hes just goning to sleep when he wants...i am beginning to get frustrated as i have tried almost everything i can think of and i have followed all the advice from everyone here.
Oh well maybe tonight will be better.Heres hoping!

Christina

Oh poop...i forgot tonight is halloween...taking him out trick or treating a little with his big brother...that will mess his routine a bit...no sleep tonight.Oh the life of a mom....lol!!

Oh what a shame!  Was there anything else funny about yesterday - did he nap OK?  Any chance he was overtired?

Hope that things settle down again soon  :)

Well i am sitting here thinking what might have caused his wakings last night and his morning Atime was a little long 2 hours instead of 1.5 and his last catnap was normal one hour but he seemed to be restless, not awake but making noises and squirming around in his crib so maybe he didnt get a good nap.
He could be ot but it would have to be from Sundays routine...we had to get up at 530am and drive daddy to his job but he did sleep the whole way there and back which was 2 hours.Dont know if this caused ot or not.

However i did manage to extend his am nap today and he is now down for his afternoon nap and he will get his catnap extended today so we can take an hour to go trick or treating.

Gotta take each day as it comes...maybe the frsh air tonight will be enough to knock him out!

Will keep you posted
