About to start EASY - some questions
« on: November 28, 2007, 18:42:53 pm »
Hi there.  This is my first post. I've read the BW book and been looking at the posts on the EASY forum.  Loads of good advice.
I am now ready to start the EASY routine, my DS is 6 weeks old and pretty much fitting in with the 3 hr feeding routine.  I do have some questions before I start:
1. He sometimes sleeps on and feeds every 4 hours, should I keep him to every 3 hours and wake him if necessary?
2. He wakes once in the night, about 3am for a feed. Is he too young to start cluster feeding or could he sleep through the night if I feed him every 2 hrs from 6pm?
3. If I cluster feed him at 6, 8 and 10pm when should I bathe him? Do I let him nap between cluster feeds/bath?

I've downloaded the EASY routine for a 4 week old.  What age does this routine change?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there.  I'm in no way an expert but thought I'd let you know what ive been doing.  My DS is 5 weeks old and have had him on a loose EASY schedule since birth. So dont think its ever too early to start him as long as you are not too rigid. Ive been cluster feeding since the beginning too and he still wakes once during the night.   (from what I've read  you have to expect that when they are so young).  I think waking once is brilliant.  If you read the book you have to feed at 6pm, then bath and bedtime routine and down for 7 ish,nap and then second cluster feed at 8. Sleep again until your dream feed. It s all a bit labour intensive and as my post suggests we still have problems but think you have to see the bigger picture.
Thats how I have been doing it anyway and seem to be doing ok.  Hope its some help.

Hi There I just started also,,,,,,I don't know if this will help but with my little one,,,i cluster feed her every two hours for her last two feedings before her final bottle for bedtime so around 4 and 6,,,then final bottle before bed at about 7:30,,wherever the time happens to fall,,,i then do what is called a dreamfeed at 11 am,,,,,this will cut out the 2 or 3 am feeding,,,,what you do is get the baby up at around 11 ish,,,without waking them up,,,you only change the diaper if they have pooped or extremely wet it,,,,,you feed them while they are sleeping,,you don't even burp them,,because they are often so relaxed they don't need to burp,,,you then lay them back down for bed,,,,,this has cut out our middle of the night feeding,,,,so her night goes as follows

cluster feed at 4 and 6
bath at 7
then bottle at 7:30
then bed by 8
dreamfeed at 11
she gets up again at 5 am to eat
sleeps till 8 am and the day begins again

maybe give the dreamfeed a try,,,you could cut out the 3 am feeding and get a little more sleep :)
also i worried about when to give a bath,,,,so i just started the bath at 7 ish,,,,,it's not always at exactlly 7 because sometimes depending on how the day goes the times change a little..........
oh and i usually make sure that ava eats every 3 hours,,,i find that it keeps her more on routine,,,as far as naps go,,,,hope this was helpful

Smck,
Welcome to the boards and congrats on the little one!

The pp have given great advice. I just wanted to add that I would wake for feeds during the day.  Keeping feeds consistant during the daytime works to keep your baby from getting day and night confused as well as keeping that belly tanked up for the night.  It sounds like you are doing great. One wake at 6 weeks is really good.
See you around.
