Sleeping with cuddly toy. Can someone put my mind at rest.
« on: November 29, 2007, 14:23:20 pm »
My DD 13 months sleeps with a bedtime bear.  When she goes down at night she has her cuddles around her but when she goes to sleep I move them to the end of the cot.  Sometimes when she stirs in her sleep she will sit up and go get it.  She sleeps on her tummy (with bum in the air at v top end of cot) and puts her arm around it so her face is nearly on top  of it.  I am such a worrier and wonder is this o.k. to let her do this.  I just worry about (well you know).  I can't get to sleep myself when I know she is lying holding it.  Can someone tell me i'm worrying over nothing.  Actually I also have a near 8 year old and I check both of them a couple of times before I can get into bed myself.

You are worrying for nothing, but I understand.

Its in fact wonderful thats she's found a stuffie that she is comfortable with for sleep, and developmentally normal too. I would actually discurage you from moving it continually as your more likely to cause anxiaty issues with her when she wakes and its not right there.

She is well past the age where you have to worry about SIDS or her sufficating on the bear or blankets or anything else in bed. She's able to roll freely and she's more then able to turn her head.

Rest assured she's fine {{HUGS}}

I think that you are worrying over nothing.  At your dds age she will move in her sleep if she has any problems breathing because of her bear (I assume that is what you are worried about).  That she has her favourite bear in bed with he is IMO probably beneficial, as he is obviously a comfort item, and helps her sleep better.

Completely agree with the above posters. My DD has slept with both her favorite teddy and blanket since about 9 months old and is also a tummy sleeper. I too would discourage you from moving it away. HTH!

Me too... DD has had her original lovie (stuffed lamb) since 8-9 mos. or so and she often keeps it close to her face as well. I definitely wouldn't move it away either.  :)

Ds has three little doggies that he sleeps with and he checks each night to make sure he has them all - I worried at first but now I'd worry more if they weren't there!

DD didn't have any form of lovie until about a month ago, when she chose a scooby do soft toy, I was so releived for her to finally have a lovie so don't worry its a good thing.
