Clipping Toenails
« on: December 18, 2007, 18:34:39 pm »
My 18 month old won't let me hold his feet for this - songs and other distractions work fine for fingernails, but not toes.  Any creative ideas would be appreciated!

How about when he is sleeping!  A small flashlight in your mouth and be quick about it.  O is the same about toes, it tickles... but I manage it during an episode of something he loves on tv... even if I only get one of two toenails at a time.

Good Luck

yes, when napping in the car in summer.

When I need to wake DS up in the morning and his toenails need cutting, I manage to clip a nail or two if I'm lucky

My ds is good with cutting fingernails too, but not toenails. He is too ticklish. I usually give him something to eat, that usually distracts him. Banana's, sweeties, biscuit, anything he gets as a treat normally. And afterwards I make sure to praise him for sitting still which i think helps him realize that if he sits still, he gets something yummy.

We used to do it facing the long mirror.  I would sit on floor with legs crossed, DD in my lap both facing mirror.  We'd make faces etc and I would quickly get toes done.  Sometimes them all, sometimes 1  ;)

Normally, I give my DD a nail file and she does her little toe nails while I hurry and do the other foot.  I make it like its a little job for her and I to do together.

Other things that have worked for us: doing it outside or while TV is on (distraction), counting along the number of toes done, singing the little piggy song as you go.

I also remember reading here that someone else does it while their kids are in the highchair eating.
