16 month old waking early again,is nap too long?
« on: January 22, 2008, 12:25:01 pm »
Hi,
My DD is 16 months and is a great sleeper,we started transitioning to 1 nap at 10 months, and finally did the  switch to 1 nap at 14 months, and she has coped brilliantly with it.She has been having 2 hr naps, putting her down just before 12,asleep by 12,then up at 2pm,with a 6:45 bedtime. She had been sleeping through till 6:30ish,she would then just stir a little and go back off till 7am.For a week now,she has been waking at 6 am,and chatting alot to herself, and takes quite a while to go off again,if she does.I'm just wondering whether or not to cut her nap a little, she does tend to do 11 1/2- 12 hr nights generally so thought she might need less daytime sleep.I've cut her nap down to 1 hr 3/4 for a couple of days, yesterday, she stirred a little about 6:10 then went straight back to sleep till 7am.She had a 1 3/4 hr nap, went to bed at 6:45 after nearly 5 hrs A time. This morning she woke just after 6 and didn't really go back off to sleep properly. She went down for her nap with no problem at 11:55,asleep at 12.Should I continue to do a shorter nap and see how it goes, and also get her to bed for 7.I want to keep a 12 hr day..7 till 7,so any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Clare
DD needed her nap shortened at that age too.she was having 2.5 hrs (heaven!!) and was dropped down to 2 hrs.shes always been on the heavy end for nap sleep and will still do 1.5hrs.

so in answer to your question yes its worth cutting down the nap a little to see if it helps preserve the lovely long night and just keep an eye on any OT.
