Advise please, need help with 15 MO sleep
« on: January 24, 2008, 11:12:42 am »
I posted about my 15 month old DS before but I did not get a response. I really hope someone might be able to offer some advice, maybe someone has been through this before as I am at my wits end.

My DS was a great sleeper, learned to sleep indapendantly at 16 weeks in his own cot and has been sleeping through the night since. He newer cried when he woke and alway got himself back to sleep. Over the last 2 weeks however things have changed. He now wakes anywhere from 2am - 5am for over an hour, and cries, not hysterically but he seems to get really frustrated that he cannot get backto  sleep. He seems to be trying to resettle but ends up getting upset. I did put it down to teeth and gave him some pain releif during the night - it seems to make little difference.

I don't pick him up as he is so long going to sleep on his own, when I lift him out of the cot he thinks its time to get up!
Anyway, he doesn't want to be picked up as he just lies on his fromt rocking away whining/crying.

The pat few weeks he has been refusing to take one of his naps in daycare - I suspect he may soon omly need 1 nap however, when he's at home he takes 2 1hr naps no problem.......could this cause the NW?

He has been teething on and off - but the meds dont seem to help - so I don't think this is the problem...

He is not walking yet, just cruising about furniture, people with kids tell me he will be walking in another few weeks...maybe this is it??

I do not want to start any bad habbits with him, i.e. rocknig him or running into him every few mins, but its awfult to hear him upset at night....I get up for work at 6:30am (and have to wake DS these morings as he has been awake for so long at night...) and am exhausted.

Any suggestion on what to do would be most welcome.

Thanks fo reading, thanks for your advice.

You must be exhausted {{Hugs}}}

You may want to just have him checked out by your doctor just to make sure there is no medical reason.  My Lo had bad NW when she had an ear infection, which I didn't pick up.  it could also be molars starting to come down, this usually happens around 14-15 months.  Molars can take a few weeks to pop through and can cause havoc with sleep during this period.  it could also be that the pain meds that you gave him when he went to bed is worked off  by 2am in the morning...

He is also the right age to start transitioning from 2-1 nap and there is very useful information regarding this on this board.  It is a mine field and can take a while so it will be good to read all the info before you start.

What really worked for us was to use wi/wo.  it does take a little while for Lo's to get used it but I found it an excellent tool for NW and extending naps.  I still use it on a regular basis when needed.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes
